Abstract:
Hydrophilic articles and methods of using such articles are described. The hydrophilic articles include a hydrophilic layer comprising sintered, acidified silica nanoparticles attached to a substrate. A spacer layer attached to a first portion of the hydrophilic layer defines at least one fluid transport channel bounded on one side by a second portion of the hydrophilic layer. The nanoparticles may include one or both of spherical and elongated nanoparticles.
Abstract:
Pressure sensitive adhesives having flame retarding properties include a (meth)acrylate-based block copolymer, and at least 10% by weight of a halogen-free flame retarding agent. The adhesives may contain additional optional additives such as tackifying resins, plasticizers, and the like. The adhesives are prepared by blending the (meth)acrylate-based block copolymer, and the halogen-free flame retarding agent either in solvent or by a solventless process.
Abstract:
There is provided a primer composition having a curative, a solvent, and an epoxide resin; wherein the curative is capable of reacting the epoxide resin; and further wherein; (a) the curative is capable of curing a perfluoroelastomer compound having at least one cure site and a crosslinking agent or catalyst; or (b) when the curative is not capable of curing the perfluoroelastomer compound, the perfluoroelastomer comprises a crosslinking agent or catalyst capable of curing the epoxide resin. The primer composition according to the present disclosure are used to bond perfluoroelastomer compounds to substrates. Methods of bonding a perfluoroelastomer compound to a substrate and multilayered articles comprising a perfluoroelastomer, a primer layer, and a substrate are also provided.
Abstract:
Optical film is disclosed. The optical film includes a binder, a plurality of particles, and a plurality of interconnected voids. The volume fraction of the plurality of interconnected voids in the optical film is not less than about 20%. The weight ratio of the binder to the plurality of the particles is not less than about 1:2.
Abstract:
A coating composition is provided comprising a) an aqueous dispersion, having a pH of less than 7.5, of silica nanoparticles having average particle diameters of 40 nanometers or less, b) an alkoxysilane oligomer; c) a silane coupling agent, and d) optionally a metal β-diketone complexing agent. The compositions may be used to prepare coated articles wherein the coating is substantially uniform in thickness, durably adheres to the substrate, and provides hydrophilic and/or antireflection surface properties to the substrate.

Fluoroacrylate additives and hardcoat compositions including the same. The hardcoats can be particularly useful as a hardcoat layer on protective films or optical displays. Methods of forming the hardcoat layer from the hardcoat composition.
Abstract:
Methods of applying adhesive to a surface of a substrate comprise: digitally applying a fixable fluid material to a portion of the substrate surface, fixing the first fluid material to form a fixed coating in contact with the substrate surface, wherein the fixed coating has at least one boundary that encloses a region of the substrate surface within the at least one boundary, and applying a second fluid material comprising at least one of an adhesive and an adhesive precursor to at least a portion of the enclosed region of the substrate surface. Various products, including laminated products, may be prepared according to such methods.
Abstract:
This invention concerns a process for modifying a polymeric substrate by contacting the surface with a photoreactive solution of an inorganic photochemical electron donor while irradiating the surface with actinic radiation. Patterns of modified and unmodified surfaces can be produced. Polymeric substrates with modified surfaces may be effectively bonded to polymer films to form composite articles. The process has particular applicability to the surface modification of fluorinated polymers.
