Abstract: A wireless coverage mapping technique is arranged to display the signalling location for each measured signal as well as the measured signal strength. In one embodiment, the resulting map contains a coloured circle at the point where be signal measurement is taken and a line connecting the circle to the signalling location in communication with the location of the measurement at the time the measurement is taken. If desired, the colour of the line can reflect the connectively metric while the style of the line can convey other information about the measurement or the measurement type. Also, if desired, the direction of movement of a mobile detector (for example, a cellular phone) can be displayed. The map can be used, for example, to determine neighbour lists such that by observation the administrator can match the neighbour list for a particular connection against the transmitter actually selected for that transmission. In this manner, neighbour lists can be updated to reflect the actual usage patterns as shown by the mapping technique disclosed herein.

Abstract: A measurement device having a configurable measurement interface that enables the dynamic allocation of responsibilities among front-end and back-end subsystems of a measurement device. A measurement device according to the present teachings includes a front-end subsystem for performing an interaction with a physical environment and back-end subsystem having a set of resources for supporting the front-end subsystem. The front-end and back-end subsystems are coupled to and communicate through a measurement interface. The front-end subsystem transfers a set of bootstrap information via the measurement interface to the back-end subsystem and in response the back-end subsystem configures the resources to support the front-end subsystem.

Abstract: A method for operating a computer system having first, second, and third data processors connected by a network. The second and third data processors are connected by an insecure network segment, while the first and third data processors are connected by a network segment that has a higher level of security than the insecure network segment. A secure communication between the first and second data processors is established by having the second data processor send an encryption key for a first encryption protocol to the third data processor utilizing a second encryption protocol. The third data processor forwards the encryption key to the first data processor. The first data processor then sends a message to the second data processor utilizing the encryption key and the first encryption protocol.

Abstract: A data collection node and method for using the same to autonomously collect data. The node has interfaces for receiving signals from a sensor, and for connecting the data collection node to a computer network. A controller in the node causes the node to be registered with a server connected to the computer network when the data collection node is first activated on the computer network. As part of the registration process, the server provides a Web page that provides access to data communicated by the controller. The controller generates data based on sensor measurements and communicates that data to the server via the computer network, preferably via HTTP. Users having access to the Web page can then access the data collected by the node. If a firewall is present between the server and the node, the controller preferably communicates with a proxy server.
