    Abstract: Novel 4-Formylamino-N-methylpiperidine compounds are claimed. 4-Formylamino-N-methylpiperidine compounds (I) are of formula (1). [Image] Independent claims are included for: (i) a process for the preparation of piperidine compounds (I) by reaction of a compound of formula (2) with formaldehyde in an organic solvent, emulsion or suspension having a b.pt. of at least 70 [deg]C (at 1.013 bar) followed by reaction with formic acid at a temperature from at least 70 [deg]C to the b.pt. (at 1.013 bar) of the solvent, emulsifying or suspension agent; and (ii) a stabilized organic material containing the piperidine compound (I). R1>-R4>1-4C alkyl or R1> and R2> together or R3> and R4> together optionally form a tetramethylene or pentamethylene group; R5>H or 1-4C alkyl; n : 1 or 2; Y : H, 1-22C alkyl, 2-22C alkenyl, 3-12C cycloalkyl or bicycloalkyl, CN, OH, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl substituted 1-22C alkyl, ether, nitrogen or sulfur linkage containing 4-22C alkyl optionally substituted by OH, 1-4C alkyl, F, Cl, 1-4C alkoxy or di(1-4C alkyl) amino substituted 7-22C phenyl or diphenylalkyl,. phenyl optionally substituted by 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl or a group of formula (3) or a heterocyclic group containing 1-22C alkyl when n is 1; Y : 1-22C alkylene, 5-22C cycloalkylene, 8-14C phenylalkylene, phenylene or 4-30C alkylene containing -O-, -N- or -S- linkage or a six membered heterocycle when n is 2.
