Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the separation of ascorbic acid from a mixture containing ascorbic acid and 2-keto-L-gulonic acid in a polar, preferably aqueous solvent, by means of liquid/liquid extraction using an amide. The method preferably also comprises steps for the back-extraction of the ascorbic acid, recycling of the extraction solvent and/or the back extraction solvent and for isolation of the ascorbic acid from the back extraction solvent. The invention further relates to a method for the production of ascorbic acid from KGA and isolation of the ascorbic acid so produced.

Abstract: Micro-structured, self-cleaning, catalytically-active surface with peaks and hollows contains a catalytically-active material in the hollows. Independent claims are also included forthe following: (a) formed catalyst bodies with an active surface; (b) a method for the production of catalyst surfaces and formed catalysts as above by powder-coating the surface of a support with particles in the size range 0.05-200 microns and then coating with a catalytically-active material; (c) an alternative method comprises: (i) optionally coating the support with a metal primer by layer deposition; (ii) applying a first layer of metal with embedded particles (0.05-200 microns) to the surface of the support or the primer layer by deposition from a solution containing these dispersed particles and (iii) coating with a catalytically-active second layer; and (d) micro-structured, self-cleaning, catalytically-active surfaces and catalysts obtained by these methods.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for single-step production of polytetrahydrofurane or tetrahydrofurane copolymers by polymerizing tetrahydrofurane on an acid, heterogeneous catalyst in the presence of at least one telogen and/or comonomer from the group of alpha, omega-diols, water, polytetrahydrofurane having a molecular weight of 200 - 700 Dalton and/or cyclic ether, characterized in that a) the catalyst-free polymerization discharge is divided up into at least one distillation step forming a residue containing the polymerization product and at least one tetrahydrofurane fraction, and the tetrahydrofurane fraction is at least partially recycled in the polymerization, and b) low-molecular polytetrahydrofurane and/or tetrahydrofurane copolymers having an average molecular weight of 200-700 Dalton are separated from the distillation residue of step a) and PTHF and/or THF copolymers having an average molecular weight of 650 - 5000 Dalton are obtained, and c) at least one partial amount of the separated low-molecular polytetrahydrofurane and/or tetrahydrofurane copolymer having an average molecular weight of 200 700 Dalton is recyled in the polymerization.
