    Abstract: The prepn. of high-molecular aldehydes (I) by the reaction of II with III: R9-CR8=CR7-CR5R6-CR3R4-CR2=CR1-CHO (I) R9-CR5=CR7-CR5R6-OR10 (II) C(H)R3R4-CR2=CR1-CHO (III) is carried out at increased temp. and between normal press. and 250 atmos. excess, in liquid phase. In the formulae, R1 and R2 are H, 1-4C alkyl or (alkyl-substd.) phenyl, R3, R5 and R7 are H or 1-4C alkyl, R4 is H or an (un)satd., (un)branched 1-12C (cyclo)aliphatic gp., R8 is 1-4C alkyl or, if R9 is phenyl, is H, R9 is an (un)branched, (un)satd. 1-12C (cyclo)aliphatic gp. in which C-C bonds may be interrupted by O or -O-CO-, or may be (alkyl-substd.) phenyl, and R10 is H or the acyl residue from a 1-5C carboxylic acid. I are raw materials for natural prods. and perfumes, e.g. beta-ionone, farnesol and phytol.

    Abstract: Aliphatic N,N-dialkylamino-alcohols of formula HO-A-NR1R2 (I) are mfd. by reaction of a diol HO-A-OH (II) with a sec.-amine HNR1R2 (III), at 150-250 deg.C and 40-250 bar in the presence of hydrogen at a partial pressure of 2-60 bar, a Cu-based hydrogenation / dehydrogenation catalyst (IV), 1-20wt.% water, and a basic alkali or alkaline earth cpd. in the liq. phase. A = at least 2C aliphatic bridging gp.; R1, R2 = 1-6C alkyl, opt. bonded to a 5- or 6-membered ring. Specifically, (II) is a linear 2-8C alpha,omega- alkanediol, opt. with max. 3 CH2 gps. replaced by ether O; (III) is dimethyl-or diethyl-amine; (IV) is made by redn. of mixed Cu/Al carbonates obtd. by pptn. from aq. solns. of Cu and Al salts with alkali metal carbonate, or by redn. of Cu formate.
