The hydroxylamine ethers I are intermediates for crop protection agents and drugs.

In this method benzyl derivatives of the general formula in which R , R and R and n have the abovementioned meaning, R is a hydrogen atom or an R -CO- radical and R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical containing 1 to 6 carbon atoms are anodically oxidised in the presence of an alcohol of the formula R -OH, in which R has the abovementioned meaning.
