Abstract: In a separator (11), designed to separate mixtures composed of liquids of various densities, the inflow (12) of the liquid mixture is so arranged and so designed that the inflowing liquid mixture hits an inner wall(16), located opposite the separator outflows, at an angle alpha of 0 DEG - 45 DEG relative to the normal to the container wall. Such a separator can be used in the manufacturing process for acrylic acid through catalytic vapour-phase oxidation of propene.

Abstract: A process for the catalytic gas-phase oxidation of methacrolein to methacrylic acid in a fixed-bed reactor with contacting tubes, at elevated temperature on catalytically active oxides with a conversion of methacrolein for a single pass of from 40 to 95 mol%, wherein the reaction temperature in the flow direction along the contacting tubes in a first reaction zone from entry of the starting reaction gases containing the reactants into the contacting tubes is from 280 to 340 DEG C. until a methacrolein conversion of from 20 to 40% is reached, and the reaction temperature is subsequently reduced by a total of from 5 DEG to 40 DEG C., abruptly or successively in steps or continuously along the contacting tubes until a methacrolein conversion of from 45 to 95% has been reached, with the proviso that the reaction temperature in this second reaction zone is not lower than 260 DEG C.

Abstract: A method for the catalytic gas-phase oxidation of acrolein to acrylic acid in a contact tubular solid bed reactor at elevated temperature on catalytically active oxides with a conversion of the acrolein on a single pass of >/= 95%, in which the reaction temperature in the flow direction along the contact tube in a first reaction zone from entry of the exit reaction gases containing the reactants into the contact tube until a conversion of the acrolein of 20 to 40% is achieved is 260 to 300 DEG C and in which subsequently thereto the reaction temperature is decreased abruptly or in successive steps or continuously along the contact tube until an acrolein conversion of >/= 95% is achieved by a total of 5 to 40 DEG C with the proviso that the reaction temperature in this second reaction zone is not less than 240 DEG C.
