Abstract: New polyazo dyestuffs are hydroxyphenylazo-diphenylazo naphthylazo-cpds., which, in the form of the free acid, have formula (I) (in which D is the radical of a diazo component. n is 0 or 1. One X is OH and the other is amino. Y is SO3H or one Y can be H. Z is -NHC6H5, -NHC6H4Me, -NHC6H4OMe, pyrrolidin-l-yl, piperidin-l-yl, hexamethylenimine, morpholin-4-yl, piperazin-l-yl, 4-methylpiperazin-l-yl, 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-l-yl or thiomorpholin-4-yl S-dioxide. Rings a can be substd. by Cl, Br, Me, MeO, EtO, COOH or CO3H. (I) are specified for colouring leather and paper. They are also useful for natural and synthetic fibres, e.g. cellulose, cotton, regenerated cellulose, wool, union, silm and nylon and give dark blue to black colours with good fastness.

(I) are esp. useful for dyeing and printing cotton and cotton-polyester blended fabrics in fast blue, violet or black shades with good colour strength light fastness and wet fastness.

Used for dyeing or printing textiles, esp. polyester when no water-solubilising gps. are present.
