Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a bifunctional catalyst for the conversion of hydrocarbons, which contains a crystalline aluminosilicate of the type of the Y-zeolites as the acidic component and a noble metal as the hydrogenation component. The process constitutes a technologically simple way of manufacturing bifunctional zeolite catalysts which have at least the same activity and the same life as the catalysts manufactured by conventional methods, coupled with great heat stability and exhibit activity in the presence of H2O, H2S and NH3 at relatively high temperatures.

Abstract: Synthesis of zeolites of gps. A, X, P and Y involves hydrothermal treatment of mixts. contg. SiO2/Al2O3 and alkali and/or alkaline earth components and water in the required molar ratios, sepn. of the crystals from the mother liquor and re-use of this after addn. of reaction components. The novelty is that, during hydrothermal treatment, water is removed from the mother liquor in such amts. that this can be completely re-used. Water (vapour) can be removed by applying a vacuum, flash evapn. or by introducing a hot gas (e.g. air). E.g. in the prodn. of zeolite X, with removal of part of the water during crystallisation, the mother liquor was re-used several times. A well-crystallised prod. was obtd. in each case. Removal of water does not impair the quality of the prod. but reduces the crystallisation time, reduces the vol. to be filtered and allows complete re-use of the mother liquor, avoiding environmental pollution or costly processing.

Abstract: Process for prepn. of butanediol-1,4-diacetate, (I), by hydrogenation of trans-butene-2-diol-1,4-diacetate (II), or mixtures contg. (II), uses a catalyst (IV) contg. Ni and Al oxide, which can be prepd. from the cpd. Ni6Al2(OH)16CO3.4H2O, (III), by heating and reduction. (I) is a starting material for prodn. of butanediol and tetrahydrofuran and can also be used for incorporating the butanediol gp. into other cpds. Hydrogenation of the trans-isomer, or of cis-trans-isomer mixt., proceeds smoothly, under mild conditions with sufficiently high catalyst loading. (IV) has higher activity than Raney Ni, already at lower temps.

Starting matls. are beryllium contg. minerals, silicic acid gels, or sols. the acid itself, sodium silicate, Al2O3 or aluminium hydroxide. The solns. are initially prepd. in the cold, then brought to 70-150 degrees C with stirring and left at this temp. for 10-100 hrs. The prds. are used for the same purposes as naturally occurring zeolites.

Abstract: Crystalline isotactic zeolites having the composition 2/ pi RxW2O3xm YO2xp H2O where R is an organic amine and n is the number of amine groups in the amine molecule, W is one or more of the elements B, Al, Ga and Fe and Y is Si and/or Ge, and a process for the preparation of these crystalline isotactic metal silicate zeolites from mixtures of YO2 and W(OH)3 by hydrothermal crystallization at from 100 DEG to 200 DEG C. with the aid of an organic amine, in the absence of an alkali metal base, alkaline earth metal base or quaternary nitrogen base or their intermediates, the number m depending on the chain length of the organic amine used in the crystallization.
