    Abstract: Process for producing insulating panes, comprising at least two panes which are arranged in parallel at a distance of from 5 to 50 mm, are approximately of the same size and are connected at the edges such that they are airtight or gastight in a manner known per se. Loose air-impermeable or gas-impermeable sheets connected to the seals at the pane edges in an airtight or gastight manner rest on the inner sides of the panes, the space between the sheets is sealed with small aerogel balls, said space is then closed off in a fully airtight or gastight manner and is subsequently evacuated to the desired extent by means of a suitable device (tube), and air or an inert gas at normal pressure is fed in at the same time between the sheets and the panes through one or more openings or tubes. The opening at the evacuating point is then closed off in a vacuum-tight manner, while the openings between the panes and sheets are either closed off or, if appropriate, remain connected to the outer air via a drying agent.

    Abstract: Graft polymers are obtained by radically initiated polymerisation of (A) monomers or monomer mixtures of (a) 10 to 100 % by weight N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides having the formula (I), in which R stands for R and C1-C6 alkyl, (b) 0 to 90 % by weight other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers that may be copolymerised with monomers (a), and (c) 0 to 5 % by weight of at least two ethylenically unsaturated monomers that contain non-conjugated double bonds in their molecule, in the presence of (B) polymers that contain at least 3 units of a C2-C4 alkylene oxide and/or polytetrahydrofuranes, in a weight ratio (A):(B) equal to (95 to 10):(5 to 80). The group (IV) is then optionally separated from the polymerised monomer (a) of the graft polymer, forming at least units having the formula (1). Also disclosed are a process for preparing said graft polymers and their use as dry and wet strength-increasing agents, as fixatives for impurities and fillers, as retention and dewatering agents for paper-making, as promoters during paper, cardboard and paperboard diketen gluing, as pigment dispersants, as starch cationising agents and as auxiliary substances for producing paper tissues.

    Abstract: Aqueous sludges of finely-ground fillers that are at least partially coated with polymers are produced by successively adding to an aqueous filler sludge 0.1 to 5 wt % of a cationic paper consolidating agent, 0.1 to 5 wt % of a non-ionic and/or anionic paper consolidating and/or sizing agent, with respect to the weight of fillers. The cationic consolidating agent is used in such an amount, with respect to the anionic consolidating and/or sizing agents, that the finely-ground fillers have a cationic charge. Also disclosed is the use of the thus obtained aqueous sludges of finely-ground fillers for producing filler-containing paper, cardboard and/or paperboard by adding the aqueous sludges to a paper pulp and by draining the paper pulp.

    Abstract: A process for the drying of inorganic hydrogels obtained from readily hydrolyzable compounds of the elements Al, Si, Ti, B, La, Zr, Cr, Sn, Th or Mg, and organic hydrogels based on gelatine, albumin or agar agar, from CO2, to give aerogels is easy to carry out industrially, and drying can be effected at from room temperature to 90 DEG C. The resulting aerogels are transparent and have a low bulk density and low thermal conductivity. The aerogels can be used as packing materials for liquid chromatography, as catalyst carriers, as substrates for enzymes and as adsorbents.
