    Abstract: But-2-enes are obtained from C4-hydrocarbon mixtures which contain but-1-ene and may or may not contain but-2-enes by catalytic isomerization of the but-1-ene to but-2-enes in an isomerization zone at elevated temperatures by a process in which the isomerization is carried out in combination with a distillative separation zone, the said hydrocarbon mixture being fed to the isomerization zone and/or distillative separation zone, the isomerization mixture obtained from the isomerization zone is passed into the distillative separation zone, a but-1-ene-containing fraction is removed above the lower third of the distillative separation zone and passed into the isomerization zone, and the but-2-enes or a fraction containing these are or is removed in the lower third of the distillative separation zone.

    Abstract: In the processing of residues contg. carboxylate salts, which occurs in the large-scale synthesis of alcohols by hydroformylation of C2H4 and C3H6, following by hydrogenation of the aldehyde formed initially, the residues are treated with strong aq. mineral acids, in an amt. to give an aq. phase with pH 2-6, and the total amt. of water present in this mixt. is 1.5-4 times the amt. of bound carboxylic acid: and the aq. and org. phases are sepd. and further processing of the residues is carried out in known manner. Simultaneous redns. are achieved in processing costs by economical processing and in environmental pollution. The org. phase contains most of the org. acids (n- and iso-C3H7.COOH and C2H5.COOH), which can be isolated economically and used in numerous org. syntheses.

    Abstract: Unbranched aldehydes are made by hydroformylation of alkylenically unsatd. cpds. with 2-20 C with CO and H2 at elevated temps. and pressures in the pres. of cobalt carbonyl cpds. by (a) treating aq. soln. of cobalt salts with CO and H2 at 50-200 degrees C and 100-400 atm. in thepres. of active carbon, zeolites or basic ion exchangers charged with cobalt carbonyl, (b) in a second stage, without releasing the pressure, extracting the mixture at 20-100 degrees C and 100-400 atm. with a satd. hydrocarbon or with the unsatd. cpd. to be hydroformylated (provided this is insoluble in water and is liquid under the prevailing conditions) or with (hydrogenated) oxo reaction products is water insoluble, (c) removing the aq. phase and (d) subjecting the resulting carbonyl complex-contg. organic phase and the mixture of CO and H2 (after addition of the alkylenically unsatd. cpds. to be hydroformylated if not used in stage (b)) to hydroformylation at 70-170 degrees C and 100-400 atm. Suitable starting materials are 2-20C alkenes with terminal double bonds, alkene mixtures made by cracking waxes and polymers of ethylene, styrene, butyl, acrylate, etc. Process gives good selectivity to prodn. of unbranched aldehydes, useful in the prodn. of alkanols for washing agents and plasticisers, etc.
