Abstract: The olefin is introduced into the bottom zone of the hydroformylation reactor contg. a liq. reaction zone making up 60-85% of the reactor vol., at 1-40 bar and 50-140 deg. C, using Rh complex cpds. as catalysts. The gaseous reaction prods. and reaction partners are removed from the hydroformylation reactor. The reaction prods. are sepd. and most of the remaining gas is returned to the reactor as recycle gas. The novelty consists in charging 20-80 vol.% of the recycle gas to the hydroformylation reactor above the liq. reaction zone and/or below the liq. surface in the top quarter of the liq. reaction zone.

Abstract: 1308567 Production of aldehydes and ketones by the oxo process BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 24 July 1970 [26 July 1969] 35891/70 Heading C2C Aldehydes and/or alcohols are produced by the oxo process by reacting an olefinically unsaturated compound with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl compound at elevated temperature, super atmospheric pressure and the reactants being introduced into the reaction zone at high speed wherein the reactants are introduced into a mixing zone which is located in the reaction zone in which it extends in the direction of introduction of the reactants, the mixing zone having a diameter which is from twice to fifty times the mean diameter of the stream of reactants supplied and having a length which is from three to thirty times its hydraulic diameter. The diameter of a stream of reactants is the diameter of a circle having the same area as the cross-section of a wand nozzle or other inlet opening and the hydraulic diameter is the diameter of a cylindrical tube which exhibits the same pressure drop as the mixing zone in question having the same length and the same throughput.

Abstract: Preparation of C3-C5-alcohols by hydrogenation of the corresponding aldehydes with hydrogen by means of a catalyst which, in ready-to-use but not yet reduced form, contains 5 to 70 % by weight of Al2O3 and/or Fe2O3 and 30 to 95 % by weight of a mixture of 100 parts by weight of NiO, 20 to 40 parts by weight of CuO, 0.5 to 6 parts by weight of MoO3 and 0 to 10 % by weight of Mn3O4, the catalyst having been prepared by reaction of an aqueous solution of the corresponding metal salts with an alkali metal carbonate solution under specified conditions, followed by drying, washing and heating.

Abstract: The formation of an emulsion when working up reaction mixtures containing butyraldehydes and cobalt is avoided by a treatment with gases containing molecular oxygen in an aqueous acid medium at an elevated temperature, at least twice the amount of molecular oxygen stoichiometrically required for the oxidation of the cobalt being used per gram atom of cobalt present in the oxoreaction mixture.
