Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare an arom. polyester contg. no residual catalyst by melt polymerizing a mixture of an arom. dicarboxylic acid with a diol in the presence of an electron-donating amine catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An arom. polyester contg. no residual amine is prepd. by melt- polymerizing a mixture of an arom. dicarboxylic acid and its deriv. with a diol and its deriv. in the presence of an electron-donating amine catalyst. The structure of pref. bisphenols and their functional derivs. is shown by the formula, wherein X is O, S, SO2, SO, CO, 1-4C alkylene, or 1-4C alkylidene; and R1 to R4 and R'1 to R'4 are each H, halogen, or 1-4C alkyl. Among the above- mentioned bisphenols, 2,2-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane (trivial name: bisphenol A) is most easily available and most widely used. Pref. examples of the electron- donating amine catalyst are activated pyridine compds., imidazoles, and alicyclic amine compds.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paving mixture which can be applied at ordinary temperature and is used as a paving material for e.g. a sidewalk surface course and a cured product thereof. SOLUTION: This mixture comprises 100 pts.wt. aggregate, 1-5 pts.wt. filler, 1-15 pts.wt. hydraulic inorganic material, 2-12 pts.wt. modified asphalt emulsion containing an epoxidized diene block copolymer and 0.2-3 pts.wt. thermosetting resin emulsifier. The filler and the inorganic material should be dispersed in a mixture of the modified asphalt emulsion with the thermosetting resin emulsifier, and the aggregate should be coated with this mixture.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition, excellent in various physical properties such as impact resistance and molding processability, capable of recarrying out the molding processing and useful for countermeasures for environmental problems by crushing a molded and processed product and melt kneading the crushed product with an epoxidized (partially hydrogenated)diene-based polymer. CONSTITUTION: (A) A molded and processed product comprising (i) a thermoplastic resin (preferably a saturated polyester resin or a polycarbonate resin) or (ii) a thermoplastic resin composition (preferably comprising at least two selected from the saturated polyester resin, the polycarbonate resin, a polyamide resin, an ABS-based resin, a polystyrene-based resin, an As resin, a polyarylene sulfide resin, a polyarylene ester resin and polyphenylene ether resin) is crushed. The resultant resin pieces in an amount of 100 pts.wt. are then melt kneaded with (B) 0.1-30 pts.wt. epoxidized (partially hydrogenated)diene-based polymer to afford the objective composition. Furthermore, the component (A) is preferably a crushed product of a bottle, etc., made of polyethylene terephthalate resin.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate polymer having a high mol.wt. without employing toxic phosgene by melt-polycondensing a dihydric phenol with a carbonic diester in the presence of a catalyst such as a basic nitrogen compound and a catalyst such as (substituted)phenylacetic acid. CONSTITUTION:A dihydric phenol [e.g. 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane] and a carbonic diester (e.g. diphenyl carbonate) are subjected to a melt- polycondensation reaction in the presence of a catalyst such as a nitrogen compound (e.g. 2-methylimidazole) and a catalyst such as a non-substituted or substituted phenylacetic acid of the formula (R1 is H, 1-5C alkoxy, nitro; R2, R3 are H, 1-5C alkyl, phenyl) (e.g. phenylacetic acid) to produce the objective high mol.wt. polycarbonate without using toxic phosgene, the melt- polycondensation reaction comprising stirring the raw materials at 180 deg.C in a nitrogen atmosphere for 1hr, subjecting the reaction product to the rise in temperature, while gradually lowering the pressure, and finally polycondensing the reaction product at 270 deg.C under 0.1Torr for 1hr, while distilling off the by-produced phenol.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a noncolored polycarbonate by specifying the iron concentration, chlorine concentration and terminal hydroxyl concentration of a polycarbonate. CONSTITUTION:1mol of a dihydroxy compound of any one of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 to R4 are each H 1-8C linear or branched alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen, (n) is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4) and 1.01-1.5mol of a carbonic diester are subjected to melt polycondensation at 100-300 deg.C in the presence of a transesterification catalyst comprising 10 to 10 mol, per mol of the dihydroxy compound, of an alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound and/or an electron- donating amine compound to obtain a polycarbonate of an iron concentration of 5ppm or below, Cr, Ni and Na concentrations of each 1ppm or below, a chlorine concentration of 10ppm or below, and a terminal hydroxyl concentration of 20mol% or below.
