    Abstract: PURPOSE:To recover transition metal by a simple and efficient method by adding sulfur compounds to transition metal remaining in a reaction product obtained with a transition metal catalyst and recover the transition metal. CONSTITUTION:Transition metal remains in a reaction product obtained with a transition metal catalyst such as Fe or Co. Almost 100% of transition metal can be recovered by adding sulfur compounds such as H2S, Na2B and NaSS to the reaction product. Thus it is possible to recover efficiently the transition metal remaining in the reaction product by a simple method without using a specific device.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for efficiently conducting the continuous production of a high molecular weight lactone polymer with improved coloring properties or the like which is allowed to have a uniform molecular weight in a reaction apparatus. SOLUTION: Cyclohexanone and an aldehyde are oxidized together or cyclohexanone is oxidized with a peracid to obtain ε-caprolactone and a carboxylic acid which are then added with a group IVa, group Va, group VIa, group VIIa, group VIII group Ib or group IIb element and/or a compound thereof and subjected to distillation to recover ε-caprolactone. The resulting ε- caprolactone alone or together with at least one member selected from the group consisting of another lactone, a bimolecular cyclic ester and a polymer having a hydroxyl group and/or an ester bond as the reaction feedstock is continuously supplied to a tower type continuous reaction apparatus (A) comprising at least one tower type reactor to effect ring-opening polymerization.

SOLUTION: This ε-caprolactone is produced by regulating the area fraction concentration prepared by summing up components having =99.8 wt.% when the relative holding time of the ε-caprolactone is 1.00 in a gas chromatographic analysis under prescribed conditions.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the subject substance useful as a raw material for pharmaceutical and agricultural raw materials in high selectivity and short time with a simple apparatus compared with conventional process by hydrogenating an aromatic ketone in the presence of a Pd catalyst supported on a basic carrier such as calcium carbonate or magnesium oxide. CONSTITUTION:The subject substance can be produced by hydrogenating a compound of formula (R' is H, 1-5C alkyl, 1-22C alkoxy or halogen; R'' is alkyl or arylalkyl) at 50-150 deg.C and 2-20kg/cm pressure in the presence of a Pd catalyst supported on a basic carrier (selected from calcium carbonate, magnesium oxide and strontium carbonate). The concentration of the catalyst in the reaction system is 0.25-0.5wt.% in terms of pure Pd based on the aromatic ketone. The solvent may be absent. The objective compound can be produced with 100% selectivity.
