This device has filter elements for separating carbon black particles and these filter elements are arranged in tandem in the cross section of a casing through which the exhaust gas flows. At least one filter element, which carries a catalyst lowering the ignition temperature of the carbon black and promoting its burn-off, repeatedly alternates with at least one filter element which carries a catalyst promoting the combustion of gaseous deleterious substances.
