Abstract: The present invention provides a device for purifying the exhaust gases of diesel engines. This device has filter elements for separating carbon black particles and these filter elements are arranged in tandem in the cross section of a casing through which the exhaust gas flows. At least one filter element, which carries a catalyst lowering the ignition temperature of the carbon black and promoting its burn-off, repeatedly alternates with at least one filter element which carries a catalyst promoting the combustion of gaseous deleterious substances.

Abstract: There are provided shaped catalysts, particularly for the formation and/or equipping of reaction chambers with catalytically active surfaces, consisting of a structural reinforcing agent of ferrous metal, a layer of a heat resistant carrier material on the structural reinforcing agent as well as a catalytically active component on the carrier material; the body of the structural reinforcing agent consists of iron or steel and its surface is provided with a nonscaling, adhesive and anchoring enhancing aluminum/iron diffusion layer obtained by a tempering of aluminum coated iron or steel at a temperature between 600 DEG and 1200 DEG C. for at least one minute. There is also disclosed a process for making the catalysts.

Abstract: An improved lambda sensor is disclosed for the measurement of the oxygen content in the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines in which the sensor element is provided with a gas permeable wrapping coated with a catalyst. The sensor delivers a clear well defined signal in the so-called rich exhaust gas, which makes possible a more precise adjustment of the fuel-air mixture fed to the internal combustion engine.

The active components of the oxidic coating are added as water-soluble precursors which are then converted by means of tempering, preferably in an atmosphere of hydrogen, into the active component.
