Abstract: A sensor apparatus and sensor apparatus system for use in conjunction with a cassette, including a disposable or replaceable cassette (3900). In some embodiments, the cassette (3900) includes a thermal well (5100) for permitting the sensing of various properties of a subject media. The thermal well (5100) includes a hollow housing of a thermally conductive material. In other embodiments, the cassette (3900) includes sensor leads (6016) for sensing of various properties of a subject media. The thermal well (5100) has an inner surface shaped so as to form a mating relationship with a sensing probe. The mating thermally couples the inner surface with a sensing probe. In some embodiments, the thermal well is located on a disposable portion and the sensing probe on a reusable portion.

Abstract: A control system (10) for control of a prosthetic device (12) having a plurality of actuators (13) receives an orientation signal indicative of a desired movement. The control system evaluates whether the prosthetic device may move as desired with a current angle of rotation and commands at least one actuator to move the prosthetic device as desired by maintaining the current angle of rotation or by adjusting the angle of rotation if the prosthetic device cannot move as desired with the current angle. The control system may alternate between commanding a first subset of actuators and a second subset of actuators each time the orientation signal is indicative of a neutral position. The control system may include a position sensor and a compliance sensor and may command at least one actuator based on a combination of positional control using the position sensor and force control using the compliance sensor.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump for infusing fluids. The peristaltic pump comprises a camshaft (705), a plunger (706), a tube receiver, a spring (710) and a position sensor (711). The camshaft includes a plunger cam (702) which is configured to engage or disengage from a plunger-cam follower (709). The plunger-cam follower is coupled to the plunger. The spring biases the plunger towards the tube receiver, to compress the tube (707) when a tube is placed in the receiver. The plunger cam engaging with the plunger-cam follower to urge the plunger away from the tube receiver. When the plunger-cam follower is not engaged by the plunger cam the plunger-cam follower does not follow the plunger cam. The position sensor is configured to determine a position of the plunger, when the plunger-cam follower is disengaged from the plunger cam and the spring compresses the plunger against the tube. A processor is coupled with the position sensor and is configured to estimate the fluid flow through the pump as indicated by the stroke of the plunger when the plunger-cam follower is disengaged and the spring applies the force through the plunger, against the tube.

Abstract: A peristaltic pump (719), and related system method are provided. The peristaltic pump includes a cam shaft, first and second pinch-valve cams (720, 726), first and second pinch-valve cam followers, a plunger cam (722), a plunger-cam follower, a tube receiver, and a spring-biased plunger (723, 724, 725). The first and second pinch-valve cams (720, 726) are coupled to the cam shaft. The first and second pinch-valve cam followers each engage the first and second pinch-valve cams, respectively. The plunger cam (722) is coupled to the cam shaft. The plunger-cam follower engages the plunger cam. The tube receiver is configured to receive a tube (728). The spring-biased plunger is coupled to the plunger-cam follower such that the expansion of the plunger cam along a radial angle intersecting the plunger-cam follower as the cam shaft rotates pushes the plunger cam follower towards the plunger and thereby disengages the spring-biased plunger from the tube. A spring coupled to the spring-biased plunger biases the spring-biased plunger to apply the crushing force to the tube (728). In other embodiments the plunger may be pivotally mounted to the pump housing.

Abstract: A reciprocating positive displacement pumping system has a rigid chamber wall to which a flexible membrane is attached defining a pumping chamber. An inlet and outlet allow liquid flow. A rigid limit structure limits the movement of the membrane and the maximum volume of the pumping chamber defining an actuation chamber. An actuation port through which a fluid under positive or negative pressure can communicate with the actuation chamber is configured to connect to a positive pressure fluid reservoir and a negative pressure fluid reservoir through a valving mechanism for controlling the flow of control fluid between the actuation chamber and each of the reservoirs. An actuation chamber pressure transducer measures the pressure of the actuation chamber and a controller integrates pressure information from the actuation chamber pressure transducer over time during a stroke to detect an aberrant liquid flow condition.
