Abstract: Information for receiving by a computer system has attributes which the computer system is capable of interpreting for displaying on a two-dimensional display devic e. The information includes background and character attributes, according to which the characters are displayable in a color or shade that contrasts to the background. At least one of the characters has a certain character attribute for two dimensionally displaying, such bold, italic, underlining; font type or color. The information is rendered in a delineation that is tactile-detectable on a control surface of a three-dimensional display device. As thus rendered, a representation of the background is rendered in a first plane, while a representation one of the characters has a top surface of the character rendered in a second plane, and a representation of the one of the character s having the certain character attribute has a top surface of the character rendered in a third plane.

Abstract: A central database on a server 504, accessible to registered users only, contains a full set of personal information on an individual. A smart card 500 stores a unique identifier (avatar) which may be used to gain access to information held on the server 504. Identity information may be retrieved by smart card readers 502 issued to registered users if smart card validity is confirmed by an authentication service. Alternatively, a full set of personal information on an individual is contained within a smart card 502. An access list may be used to ensure that only smart card readers with the highest levels of access can retrieve the most sensitive information. At least two avatars, horizontal and vertical, are used. The former provides a changeable identity and the latter a non-changeable. Very low levels of identification are contained in memory on the smart card 500.

Abstract: A particular electronic device is enabled to detect 82 the proximity of other electronic devices. Multiple proximity based conditions for usage of the electronic device may be provided by a manufacturer 88, user or other authorities at the electronic device. The proximity of the other electronic devices is compared with proximity based conditions and a level of usage of the particular electronic device is determined 94, such that the level of usage of the electronic device is conditionally adjusted according to the proximity of the other electronic devices.. Priority may also be used 90 to determine which conditional usage level selection should be used in a particular proximity. Embodiments include limiting use (e.g audio output/volume levels) in particular areas and/or at particular times. Another embodiment given is during specified times of the day when a specific mobile device is detected in the proximity of a users mobile device, audio output of the users mobile device is disabled except when specific callers are identified, in which case the disabling condition is overridden and output is provided to the user.
