Abstract: YO983-045 IMPROVED ELECTROEROSION RECORDING MATERIAL WITH POLYORGANOSILOXANE OVERLAYER, AND IMPROVED OVERLAYER COMPOSITIONS For high speed electroerosion recording, this invention provides a polyorganosiloxane overlayer which includes high lubricity solid particles as a filler. The overlayer provides a combination lubricant and protective layer for the thin metal layer which is removed by electroerosion to prevent damage for the areas not removed by electroerosion. The polyorganosiloxane overlayer is preferably crosslinked, and is relatively hard, durable, and especially resistant to thermal degradation by the electroerosion arcing. This is important to avoid debris buildup at the recording electrodes resulting from the high temperature arcing for removal of the overlayer in the areas where recording takes place.

Abstract: ELECTROEROSION PRINT MEDIA HAVING PROTECTIVE COATINGS MODIFIED WITH ORGANOTITANIUM REAGENTS The present invention provides an improved electroerosion recording medium which comprises, in a preferred embodiment, a non-conductive support, a hard, abrasion resistant layer, preferably comprising an organic polymer matrix containing an inorganic particulate material, a thin conductive film, typically of a metal such as aluminum, and an abrasion resistant overlayer that most preferably comprises a solid conductive lubricant dispersed in an organotitanium reagent modified polymer system. The overlayer is highly adherent to the conductive surface, has a low organic binder content and provides effective protection against abrasion of the conductive layer and fouling of a print head during electroerosion printing.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a dot matrix printer which makes use of multiple dot patterns distributed on the cylinder, belt, hand or drum of a line printer to provide an improved printing throughput for an all addressable line printer. In a dothelix matrix printer, different arrangements of the dots are used which can be varied in position and spacing to increase printing speed. On a belt, band or drum line printer, multiple dot patterns are given a predetermined distribution. More specifically, arrangements of dots are used which provide enhanced performance due to the fact that they are determined by an analysis of the statistical occurrence of a particular dot pattern in a character set. The higher statistical probability dot patterns are used more often on the belt, band or drum.

Abstract: A color facsimile transmission apparatus wherein a beam of white light is dispersed into component colors by a prism. The color dispersed bands of illumination are focused to irradiate a portion of a moving document. The reflected, colored light from the document is focused on the surface of three charge coupled devices (CCDs) so that the red illuminating band irradiates a first CCD and the green and blue bands respectively irradiate the second and third CCDs. The movement of the document causes each line of the document to scroll through the illuminating band over each of the CCDs. The CCDs are operated in the time delay and integration mode to generate charge packets corresponding to the picture elements of the red, green and blue component line images of each line of the document. Abstract: abstract An improved lithographic printing plate includes a substrate layer of a nonconducting, hydrophobic polyester, an intermediate film of conducting, hydrophilic material such as aluminum and a top protective film of relatively hard hydrophilic dielectric material, such as aluminum oxide. .A printing image is formed in the lithographic printing plate by an electroerosion process wherein erosion electrodes are pulsed with voltage to break down the dielectric in areas adjacent to the erosion electrodes and to evaporate or otherwise remove corresponding portions of the conducting film, thereby creating holes that extend through the dielectric and conducting films and that expose portions of the surface of the underlying hydrophobic substrate. Abstract: MICROMIST JET PRINTER A micromist printing arrangement wherein a micromist of ink particles, provided by an ultrasonic nebulizer, is forced through a small nozzle to form an aerosol jet. The micromist ink particles are entrained in the jet and focused to print a narrow width region which is substantially smaller in size than the overall jet diameter and the nozzle opening. Particle size, jet stream velocity and air or other carrier gas viscosity are considered in establishing focusing characteristics of the aerosol jet, which is directed against the paper to wet the same, thereby obtaining dense, well defined print lines. According to a first embodiment, modulation of the aerosol jet is achieved by fluid logic control whereby a vacuum is introduced into the path of the aerosol jet to shunt it from its printing path. In another embodiment, control may be achieved through the use of sonic excitation of turbulence into the aerosol jet. The sonic excitation changes the aerosol jet from laminar flow to turbulent flow, resulting in a reduction of the velocity of the aerosol jet such that the aerosol ink particles do not wet the paper.
