    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing a mixture of a pyran represented by the formula (II) and a hydroxypyran represented by the formula (III) by reacting aldehyde (I) with isoprenol.         R 1 ―CHO     (I) wherein R 1 represents an alkyl or alkenyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, an optionally alkyl- or alkoxy-substituted aryl group having 6 to 12 carbon atoms in total, or the like. Further, the hydroxypyran compound in the resulting mixture is subjected to dehydration reaction in the presence of an acid to produce a pyran compound represented by the formula (II).

    Abstract: To provide a simple process for economically preparing a dihydropyrane compound at a high productivity and a high reaction yield.
