    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject medicine effective for patients with acute and chronic renal insufficiency, receiving hemodialysis and reduced in liver function, having a new action, by using a specific resin as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This reducing agent comprises an acrylic water-absorbing resin as an active ingredient. An alkaline earth metal acrylate- or methacrylate-based polymer or a self cross-linking type metal acrylate-based polymer is preferable as the acrylic water-absorbing resin. Preferably, these metal salts comprise at least partially a calcium ion (with the proviso that a potassium salt is omitted in the case of a potassium ion adsorbent). The medicine reduces a guanidine compound accumulated in the body of a patient, discharges the compound out of the body together with water accumulated in the body without by hemodialysis and also potassium ion accumulated in the body.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a diblock fluoropolyether having a narrow molecular weight distribution within a short time in high yields by polymerizing an alkylene oxide in the presence of a specified catalyst, polymerizing trifluoropropylene oxide and terminating the polymerization with a terminator. SOLUTION: This fluoropolyether is produced by polymerizing an alkylene oxide represented by formula II (wherein R is hydrogen, a halogen, hydroxyl, amino or the like) in the presence of a polymerization initiator being a metal alkoxide or hydroxide represented by formula I (wherein R is hydrogen, a halogen, hydroxyl, amino or the like; R is a group derived from the polymerization initiator being a metal alkoxide or hydroxide; R is a group derived from the shortstop; and m+n is 2-3,000 on the average), polymerizing trifluoropropylene oxide represented by formula III and terminating the polymerization with a terminator. The alkylene oxide represented by formula II is desirably ethylene oxide or propylene oxide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a resin high in water absorption factor with favorably sustainable water-absorbing rate, liquid permeability and gel stability over time after swollen, by blending a hydrous highly water-absorbing resin with a metal compound and a cross-linking agent followed by conducting a reaction. CONSTITUTION: A hydrous highly water-absorbing resin prepared by incorporating 10-100 pts.wt. of water in 100 pts.wt. of a highly water-absorbing resin is blended with 0.005-5 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. of the highly water-absorbing resin, of metal compound having at least two hydrolyzable groups and a cross- linking agent having at least two functional group reactive with the metal compound at the weight ratio of the metal compound to cross-linking agent of 0.1 to 30 to carry out a reaction. The highly water-absorbing resin is a hydrophilic polymer prepared by reversed-phase suspension polymerization of an aqueous solution of a carboxyl- or carboxylate-bearing hydrophilic polymer containing a water-soluble initiator (specifically, acrylic (alkali metal salt) (co)polymer). The metal in the metal compound is e.g. silicon, and the hydrolyzable groups e.g. alkoxyls (specifically, an alkoxytitanium or alkoxysilane). The functional group in the cross-linking agent is e.g. hydroxyl group.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new modified polyethylene having a polar and highly reactive functional group near the middle part of the molecule in high purity by performing living polymerization of ethylene using an alkyllithium/t-diamine initiator and reacting the product with a formic acid ester. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is subjected to living polymerization in the presence of an initiator consisting of a 1-6C straight or a branched alkyllithium (e.g. methyllithium) and a t-diamine (preferably tetramethylethylenediamine, etc.) preferably at 20-80 deg.C generally for 0.1-24hr. The polymerization product is reacted with a formic acid ester preferably by slowly adding the ester little by little to the system to obtain the objective polyethylene having a functional group near the middle part of the molecular chain and expressed by the formula (R) is a 1-6C straight or a branched saturated hydrocarbon chain; (m) and (n) are 10-1,000; A is H or a alkali metal). The living polymerization is preferably carried out by introducing ethylene into a cyclohexane solution containing the initiator under a pressure of 1-100kg/cm .

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the titled keratin readily soluble in water and aqueous solvents, by readucing a Keratinous substance to cleave sulfhydryl groups, and reacting a cationic agent having a quaternary nitrogen atom and an epoxy group with the reduction product.
    CONSTITUTION: A keratinous substance, e.g. wool, feather, hair or nail, is reduced with a reducing agent, e.g. 2-mercaptoethanol, in water or its mixture with an organic solvent, e.g. methanol, acetone or dioxane, to convert disulfide bonds into sulfhydryl bonds. The resultant product is then reacted with a cationic agent, e.g. glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride, having a group of formula I, II or III and a quaternary nitrogen atom in one molecule to give the aimed modified keratinous protein. Perferably, the reducing reaction is carried out at pH 6W11 and if necessary under heating for 2W3hr.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a keratotic plug remover which keeps high film strength even under high humidity and can certainly remove keratotic plug clogging pores in the skin by including a copolymer containing a vinyl monomer bearing salt-forming groups and a hydrophobic vinyl monomer as essential monomers. SOLUTION: This keratotic plug remover is obtained by including a copolymer, which contains at least (A) vinyl monomer [e.g. maleic acid, dimethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate or the like] bearing salt-forming groups (e.g. carboxyl, acid anhydride, phosphonic acid and the like) and (B) hydrophobic vinyl monomer, e.g. an alkyl (meth)acrylate, an alkyl (meth)acrylamide or the like as essential monomers, as an active ingredient. The components A and B are preferably blended in proportions of 20-95 mol% and 5-80 mol%, respectively, based on the whole monomer used in the above copolymerization. Further, the above copolymerization can be carried out by all means of bulk polymerization, solution polymerization, suspension polymerization, emulsion polymerization and the like in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator.
