    Abstract: A process for preparing a carboxylic acid-based polymer comprising the steps of (A) a first polymerization reaction step comprising introducing an aqueous solution of monomers containing an alpha -unsaturated carboxylic acid or a salt thereof, an aqueous solution containing a hydrogensulfite, and a gas containing oxygen into a flow mixer to polymerize the monomers; and (B) a second polymerization reaction step comprising further polymerizing a reaction product containing the unreacted monomer obtained in the first polymerization reaction step. There can be stably and productively prepared a carboxylic acid-based polymer having a high quality with suppressed coloration and containing a reduced amount of impurities even if the amount of gas containing oxygen used in the initiation of the polymerization reaction is remarkably reduced.

    Abstract: Hair cosmetic compsn. comprises a water-soluble polysaccharide with hydrophobic gps., which has a viscosity at 25 deg C and 30 rpm of 1-30 mPas, in the form of a 10 wt.% aq. ethanol compsn. comprising 2 wt.% of the polysaccharide. Pref. the viscosity is 1-15 mPas. The water-soluble polysaccharide with hydrophobic gps. is obtained by introducing a hydrophobic gp. into a polysaccharide, selected from guar gum, cellulose, pullulan, chitin, chitosan, carrageenan, xanthan gum and carob gum (esp. guar gum, hydroxyethylated cellulose, pullulan and carboxymethylated chitosan). The hydrophobic gp. is selected from 2-30C hydrocarbon gps. or gps. of formulae -(CH2)2N (CH3)2RX , -(CH2)3N (CH3)2RX , or -CH2CH(OH)CH2N (CH3)2RX where R=2-30C hydrocarbon gp. and X=halogen atom.

    Abstract: The present invention is a three-dimensional-modeling soluble material to be used as a material of a support member for supporting a three-dimensional object when the three-dimensional object is produced with a 3D printer that employs a fused deposition modeling method. The three-dimensional-modeling soluble material contains a polyester resin comprising: an aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer unit A having a sulfonic acid base; a dicarboxylic acid monomer unit B that does not have a sulfonic acid base; and a diol monomer unit, wherein the proportion of the aromatic dicarboxylic acid monomer unit A in the total of all dicarboxylic acid monomer units is 10 to 70 mol %. The present invention can provide a three-dimensional-modeling soluble material to be used for a support member, which material is suitable for production of a three-dimensional object by the FDM method, has moisture-absorption resistance, has a high rate of dissolution in neutral water, and can be quickly removed from a three-dimensional object precursor without using a strong alkali aqueous solution.

    Abstract: A cationic group-containing copolymer is provided which possesses excellent thixotropy and exhibits high adsorbability to the skin, hair, etc. and, when incorporated as a thickener in cosmetic articles, manifests a very satisfactory tactile sensation. The cationic group-containing copolymer is characterized in that the viscosity at 25 DEG C of the aqueous solution prepared by incorporating the copolymer in deionized water at a concentration of 0.5 wt. % is in the range of 0.3 - 20 Pa.sec. at a shear rate of 1 sec and in the range of 0.01 - 5 Pa.sec. at a shear rate of 10 sec and the viscosity at a shear rate of 1 sec is higher than the viscosity at a shear rate of 10 sec . This cationic group-containing copolymer is obtained by particularly using a cationic group-containing vinyl monomer, a hydrophilic nonionic group-containing vinyl monomer such as N,N-dimethyl (meth)acrylamide or N,N-diethyl (meth)acrylamide, and a cross-linking vinyl monomer containing at least two vinyl groups in the molecular unit thereof as essential component monomers and radically polymerizing the essential component monomers. A thickener made of the copolymer is also disclosed.
