    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-absorbent resin having a good time stability in a water-contg. state by specifying the total amt. of a polymn. initiator used based on the amt. of a monomer and by changing the addition conditions of the initiator within a time from the beginning to the end of the polymn. SOLUTION: The total amt. of a polymn. initiator is set at 0.01-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. water-soluble monomer. At least 1/4 of the total amt. of the initiator is added before the monomer conversion reaches 50%. The rate of addition of the initiator to the polymn. system is changed at least once within a time from the begining to the end of the polymn. (excluding the starting time and ending time of the polymn.). The highly water-absorbent resin is prepd. by supplying a water-soluble monomer or its water soln. into a dispersion medium contg. a hydrophobic org. solvent and subjecting the monomer or soln. to reversed phase suspension polymn. in the presence of an ionic surfactant. Azoic polymn. initiators and oxidative polymn. initiators, such as 2,2'-azobis(2- amidinopropane)dihydrohalide, are listed as the polymn. initiator.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a new polyethylene modified with fluorinated alkyl and having excellent oil and water repellecies in high yield and purity by producing a living polyethylene using an alkyllithium/t-diamine initiator and successively reacting the product with two specific kinds of compounds. CONSTITUTION:Ethylene is subjected to living polymerization in the presence of an initiator consisting of a 1-6C straight or a branched alkyllithium (e.g. methyllithium) and a t-diamine (preferably tetramethylethylenediamine, etc.). The polymerization product is reacted with a formic acid ester preferably by slowly adding the ester little by little to the system and then with a fluorinated alkylcarboxylic acid halide of a formula I (Rf is a 2-17C perfluoroalkyl or a perfluoropropylene oxide oligomer having a polymerization degree of 2-5) (e.g. perfluorooctanoic acid fluoride) to obtain the objective polyethylene of formula II (R1 is a 1-6C straight or branched saturated hydrocarbon chain; (m) and (n) are 10-1,000).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a multilayer plastic container having transparency and excellent in barrier properties to gas, water vapor and ultraviolet rays by forming the container consisting of two layers of a thermoplastic polyester layer which has ethylene terephthalate as a main repeating unit, and a thermoplastic polyester layer containing ethylene naphthalate. CONSTITUTION:In this process for producing a multilayer plastic container, a preform (preliminarily molded article) consisting of at least two layers of a thermoplastic polyester layer (layer A) which has the main repeating unit of 90mol% or more ethylene terephthalate as a repeating unit, and a thermoplastic polyester layer (layer B) which has 5-90mol% ethylene naphthalate as a repeating terminal, is molded by injection molding and then blow-molded to be oriented at least in an uniaxial direction in a temperature range of 80-120 deg.C. The multilayer plastic container thus produced is uniform in its thickness, has transparency and is further excellent in barrier properties to gas, such as an oxygen gas and a carbonic acid gas, or to water vapor, and also in barrier properties to ultraviolet rays. In particular, the container can be suitably utilized as a foodstuff packaging container.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a massive frosty container by a method wherein the container, the haze and glossiness of the surface of which are specified, is formed out of composition, which is prepared by mixing polyester resin as main material and polycarbonate resin as sub-material with each other by the mixing ratio lying within the specified range. CONSTITUTION:Material, in which 70mol.% or more of repeating unit is made of ethylene terephthalate and the intrinsic viscosity of which is 0.65-1.5, is preferably employedas main material. Out of the composition consisting of the main material as mentioned above and polycarbonate resin as sub-material mixed with each other by the mixing ratio of main material/sub-material ranging from 98/2 to 60/40, a container having the haze of 1-50% and the glossiness of its surface of 40 or less is formed. The forming of the container is performed by forming preform, which is produced by injection molding the above-mentioned composition at the linear speed of 350mm/sec or less. The resultant preform is biaxially stretching blow molding at the elevated temperature of 155-175 deg.C. If the stretching is performed under the stretching temperature of 155 deg.C or lower, a white container is resulted. A container having uniform wall thickness can be hard to obtain, if the stretching is performed under the stretching temperature of 175 deg.C or higher.

The resultant polypropylene (co)polymer having active terminals is then reacted with an aromatic divinyl compound expressed by formula II (the relative positions of two substituent groups attached to the benzene ring may be any of the o-, p-and m-positions) and subsequently reacted with a proton donor or a halogen to afford the objective (co)polymer expressed by formula III (R is H or is H or halogen; n is 10-10000).
