Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject high-purity compound having good hue, smell and stability by successively passing a synthetic reaction solution through a step for removing a lower alcohol, a step for adding a mineral acid thereto to carry out layer separation and a step for removing an odor component. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [M and M are each H or a cation group; (m) and (n) are each 1-3] is reacted with an acid halide of the formula RCOX (R is a 5-21C alkyl, alkenyl, etc.; X is a halogen) using a lower alcohol as at least one kind of a reaction solvent and as necessary, salt exchange is carried out to afford a reaction solution containing the objective compound of formula II. Then, (A) a step for removing a lower alcohol of the reaction solvent from the reaction solution until the alcohol content in the reaction solution becomes

Abstract: PURPOSE:To economically obtain the derivative, having no malodor such as an olefin or an animal smell and capable of being blended with a cosmetic, etc., without carrying out the post-treatment according to a simple operation by reacting an alkenylsuccinic or an alkylsuccinic anhydride with sterols and then bringing the resultant compound into contact with an inert gas. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing a sterol derivative expressed by formula IV (R is a residue after removing H atom of OH group in sterols; formula V is a group binding to 0 atom to which the H atom of the OH group in the sterols is bound; [R is a group expressed by formula II or III (R is a 6-20C alkenyl or alkyl)] is to react (A) an alkenylsuccinic or an alkylsuccinic anhydride expressed by formula I with (B) natural sterol having one OH group or a hydrogenated substance thereof and then bring the resultant reactional product into contact with an inert gas or steam. Furthermore, the inert gas is preferably N, He or Ar and the inert gas or steam is preferably brought into contact with the prepared reactional product at 50-150 deg.C under reduced pressure. Water is preferably used in place of the steam and cholesterol is preferably used as the component (B).
