    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing sintered shapes, comprising the steps of: (1) forming a green body from a mixture comprising a major amount of at least one inorganic powder; and one or more additives selected from the group consisting of: (A) at least one reaction product of a hydroxy compound with a carboxylic acylating agent; (B) at least one Mannich reaction product; (C) at least one hydrocarbyl-substituted amine; (D) at least one aminophenol; (E) at least one reaction product of a nitrophenol and amino compound; (F) at least one basic nitrogen-containing polymer; (G) at least one carboxylic acylating agent; (H) at least one aromatic acid or derivative thereof; (I) at least one aromatic oxime; and (J) at least one overbased or gelled overbased metal salt of an acidic organic compound provided that when the carboxylic acylating agent is a hydrocarbyl-substituted carboxylic acylating agent and the hydrocarbyl group contains less than an average of 40 carbon atoms, then the carboxylic acylating agent is a polycarboxylic acylating agent; and (2) sintering the green body. Sintered shapes made from the compositions of the present invention have relatively high fired densities and grain sizes; and relatively low pore volume. (

    Abstract: This invention is directed to lubricating oil and functional fluid compositions having improved high temperature stability and which contain at least one phosphorus-containing composition and at least one oil-soluble nitrogen-containing composition. More particularly, the lubricating and functional fluid compositions of the present invention comprise (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and a minor amount of (B-1) at least one soluble tertiary aliphatic primary amine salt of a substituted phosphoric acid composition characterized by the formula (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group, R2 is a hydrocarbyl group, and both X groups are either O or S, and (C) at least one soluble nitrogen-containing composition prepared by the reaction of a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic acid-producing compound with at least about one-half equivalent, per equivalent of acid producing compound, of an amine containing at least one hydrogen attached to a nitrogen atom. Preferably, the amine salts of the phosphoric acids utilized in the lubricating compositions of the present invention are derived from primary amines, and the soluble nitrogen-containing compositions (C) also contain boron. The lubricating compositions of the present invention are particularly useful in gear applications requiring high thermal stability such as from about 160 DEG C. with intermittent operation up to about 200 DEG C.

    Abstract: Sulfur-containing compositions are described which are prepared by sulfurizing (A) at least one fatty acid ester of a polyhydric alcohol, or (B) at least one fatty acid, fatty acid ester of a monohydric alcohol, or a mixture thereof, or (C) at least one other olefin, or (D) mixtures of any two or more of (A), (B) and (C), in the presence of a catalytic amount of (E) at least one salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of the formula R1(R2)N-CSSH wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups, or (F) at least one mercapto benzothiazole, or (G) mixtures of (E) and (F). Preferably, various mixtures of (A), (B) and (C) are sulfurized in accordance with the invention. The incorporation of a catalytic amount of salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of Formula I or at least one mercapto benzothiazole (or mixtures thereof) results in the preparation of sulfurized compositions which are characterized by excellent oil solubility and higher sulfur contents, and the compositions generally are lighter in color when compared to sulfurized compositions prepared in the absence of such catalysts. The sulfurized compositions prepared in accordance with the present invention are useful as general purpose antioxidants and friction modifiers for lubricating compositions and automatic transmission fluids and in particular, as additives in metal working lubricants. The above-described sulfurized compositions as well as sulfurized compositions prepared in the absence of catalysts (E) and/or (F) are useful in asphalt compositions.
