Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform an on-demand multiple access fair queuing in a time division and frequency division multiple access radio network with semi-duplex and full duplex system. SOLUTION: There are N mini-slots which can be used for contention in the next uplink frame organized into plural access priority classes. A base station 240 allows m access priority classes. Each remote host of the access priority class (i) picks up one contending mini-slot at random and transmits an access demand. Mini-slots to be picked up are in a range of 1 to Ni where N(i+1)

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transport more effectively a small multimedia RTP packet by compressing a GTP (tunneling protocol)/UDP(user datagram protocol)/IP(Internet protocol) header in a UMTS core network. SOLUTION: The compression of a GTP/UPD/IP header including the header information on the GTP, UDP and IP based on the GPRS(general packet radio service) is negotiated with a GTP peer and the GTP/UPD/IP header is transmitted to the GTP peer. Then a compressed GTP/UPD/IP header is transmitted to the GTP peer. The compressed GTP/UPD/IP header includes a tunnel identifier field of its length shorter than 4 bytes or an expansion bit field showing presence/absence of an expansion field and a tunnel identifier presence field showing presence/absence of a tunnel identifier field.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic management system which can solve the service quality problem of a packet system. SOLUTION: A peak rate shaper is combined with a weighted fair queuing scheduler which presents the service quality guarantee to connection of many users. For instance, a front end peak rate shaper is combined with a weighted fair queuing scheduler which presents the peak rate shaping and the average band width to connection of many users. Furthermore, a back end peak rate shaper is combined with a weighted fair queuing which assures that a packet is transmitted at a data transfer rate larger than the average downlink/uplink band width.

When data generated by an application arrives, the base station 1 processes arrived data from the application into one LIPE packet (or into multiple LIPE packets when data exceeds 2048 bytes).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hand-off function that transfers a known PPP connection from one packet server to another. SOLUTION: In the case that the user leaves a service area of a 1st packet server and enters an area of a 3rd server, a hand-off control message transaction is started. An LAC 115 or an anchor LAC 155 in a 2nd server can start a call continuous transaction. A Radius server relating respectively to packet servers is adopted to execute the call continuos transaction. At least one packet server (anchor LAC) monitors a state variable relating to the packet server (2nd service LAC and private network) to which data are transmitted.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve collisions between remote hosts competing for a transmission band width in a multiple access radio network. SOLUTION: A remote 232 which becomes active sets a stack level to 0, enters demand state, joints with the remote the stack level which already has become 0 during an arbitrary specific collision solution time. When the stack level of the remote is 0, the remote picks up mini-slot at random for the purpose of an access demand. When the result is successful and a queue is empty in the remote, the present packet is transmitted and gets out of the demand state after the transmission permission has been received. When the queue is not empty, a reservation request for the next packet in the queue is piggybacked, the present packet is transmitted, and the performance is continued until the queue becomes empty.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variety of remote radio accesses to an end user by dividing mobility management to categories of four connection hand-over consisting local, micro, macro and global to minimize update of hand-off accordingly. SOLUTION: First a data frame is communicated between a 1st mobile end system ES1 and a 1st access hub AH1, then when the 1st mobile end system ES1 is moved and makes registration again through a 2nd access point AP2, a registration request is sent to the 1st access hub from the 1st mobile end system ES1 through the 2nd access point. The 1st mobile end system ES1 is registered again to the 1st access hub without notice of a 1st registration server. Then the 2nd access point is linked with the 1st access hub and the link between the 1st access point and the 1st access hub is interrupted.

Abstract: A method for data transmission in a wireless communication network utilizes an on-demand multiple access method with a fair queuing service discipline for efficient utilization of the limited bandwidth available in the network by sharing bandwidth among the remote hosts. In one embodiment, the base station broadcasts the system virtual time and the assigned shares of service classes to each of the wireless remotes. Each remote host computes its own service tag and reports it to the base station, which assigns transmit permits based on the service tag values and the available data slots. If a packet is lost or in error, the sending remote recomputes the service tag values of all its queued packets, including the packet whose transmission failed. Alternatively, the remote informs the base station of its queue size and the base station computes service tags for each remote based on the service shares of the remote and the available data slots. If a packet is lost or in error, the base station recomputes the service tag values for that remote host based on the current system virtual time. In an alternate embodiment, the AP or wireless node maintains a packet queue and a head-of-line tag. If a packet is lost, only the head-of-line tag needs to be changed. Once the head-of-line packet has been transmitted successfully, the rest of the queued packets will automatically receive the correct tag, the recomputed head-of-line tag plus appropriate increments. For half-duplex, both the uplink and downlink queues at the access points are managed as if there is only one system virtual time. For full-duplex, separate system virtual times for the uplink and the downlink traffic may be used. Remotes may also be divided into one or more separate groups, with each group having a different priority and receiving a different system virtual time. Service tags of all other remotes remain unaffected by the retransmission of a packet from any particular remote, meaning that the QoS experienced by the other remotes does not suffer.
