    Abstract: We disclose a system for sending wireless communication signals on at least one downlink wavelength and receiving wireless communication signals on at least one uplink wavelength, wherein there is a ratio r equal to the larger divided by the smaller of these wavelengths. The system comprises a receiver operative to receive signals imposed on a carrier having the uplink wavelength, a transmitter operative to transmit signals imposed on a carrier having the downlink wavelength, and an array of independent antenna elements. The array comprises a first and a second sub-array. One sub-array is electrically coupled to the transmitter, such that transmitted signals can be radiated from it, and the other sub-array is electrically coupled to the receiver, such that signals to be received can be extracted from it. The sub-arrays are geometrically similar to each other with a relative scale factor equal to the wavelength ratio r. The sub-arrays have at least one common antenna element.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for wireless signal transmission of signals from an array of two or more antennas, in which each signal to be transmitted is selected from a constellation of unitary space-time signals. Each unitary space-time signal is a unitary matrix, in which each column represents a respective antenna, each row represents a respective time interval, and each element represents a complex amplitude to be transmitted by a given antenna during a given time interval. In specific embodiments of the invention, the matrices of the signal constellation form a non-Abelian group which has a positive diversity product, or a set derived from such a group. In other embodiments, the signal constellation is a subset of such a group, and its multiplicative closure forms a finite non-Abelian group which has a positive diversity product. In still other embodiments, the signal constellation is an extension of any of the preceding types of constellations, formed by adding one or more further elements that do not belong to, and are not derived from, the group or group subset.

    Abstract: A communications system achieves high bit rates over an actual communications channel between M transmitter antennas of a first unit and N receiver antennas of a second unit, where M or N > 1, by creating virtual sub-channels from the actual communications channel. The multiple antenna system creates the virtual sub-channels from the actual communications channel by using propaga tioninformation characterizing the actual communications channel at the first and second units. For transmissions from the first unit to the second unit, the first u nit sends a virtual transmitted signal over at least a subset of the virtual sub-channel s using at least a portion of the propagation information. The second unit retrieves a corresponding virtual received signal from the same set of virtual sub-chann els using at least another portion of said propagation information.
