Abstract: The present invention provides lubricant oil compositions comprising a polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate. The lubricant oil compositions are useful for industrial gear oil, automotive gear oil, and lubricant oil for refrigerators, rolling installations and fibers, which are excellent in lubricating properties and detergency. The present invention also relates to lubricant oil compositions which comprise a polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate having mutual solubility with an ozone layer-nondestructive Freon such as Freon R-134a, and which are accordingly especially suited for refrigerators using hydrogenated fluorocarbon as a refrigerant. A polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate according to the invention comprises a polyoxypropylene group in the molecular chain and an alkyl group and an alkyloxyalkylene group at the molecular terminals. This invention provides a process for preparing said polyalkylene glycol polycarbonate wherein a polypropylene glycol and a carbonate are allowed to react, said reaction including condensation polymerization. The invention also provides a process without condensation polymerization for preparing a polyalkylene glycol polyol wherein a polyol and a carbonate is allowed to react in the presence of a basic catalyst while a produced alcohol is being distilled off, the catalyst is removed then, and the unreacted carbonate is eliminated.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing an aromatic carbonate which comprises reacting a phenolic compound with a di-aliphatic carbonate or an aliphatic-aromatic carbonate in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is either SnO and/or a tin compound represented by the following formula wherein X and Y are identical or different and each represents OH, SCN, OR , OCOR or a halogen atom, R represents an alkyl or aryl group, X and Y are not alkoxy groups at the same time, and R represents an alkyl or aryl group; or at least one compound of an element selected from the group consisting of Sc, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Au, Ga, In, Bi, Te and lantanoids. The use of these specific catalysts enables the product to be obtained in high yields and selectivities and makes it easy to purify the product.

Abstract: An industrially suitable process for producing linear dimers of acrylonitrile readily at high efficiency in a high yield by the use of a highly active catalyst excellent in stability without forming any by-product difficult of separation. The above process comprises making acrylonitrile react in the presence of a ruthenium complex composed of a ruthenium atom as the central atom and molecules of cyclopentadiene or a derivative thereof as the ligands. The above process gives adiponitrile, 1,4-dicyanobutene or 1,4dicyanobutadiene as the product and these dimers are useful as the intermediates of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid which are the raw materials of nylon 66, or the intermediates of rust inhibitors or vulcanization accelerator for rubbers.

Abstract: Disclosed is a process for producing an aromatic carbonate which comprises reacting a phenolic compound with a di-aliphatic carbonate or an aliphatic-aromatic carbonate in the presence of a catalyst. Abstract: A novel propylene elastomer having such characteristics that: (1) it is composed of 50-95 mole % of units derived from propylene and 50-5 mole % of units derived from 1-butene, (2) it has a triad tracticity (mm faction) of at least 90 % as determined by 13C-NMR spectrometry (in hexachlorobutadiene using tetramethylsilane as the internal standard), (3) it has a limiting viscosity of 0.1-12 dl/g (at 135 ~C in decalin), (4) it has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 3 or less, and (5) it has a randomness parameter (B) of 1.0 to 1.5, preferably 1.0 to 1.3. In addition, it is desirable that: (6) it has a melting point (Tm) of 60-140 ~C and the following relationship holds between the Tm and the 1-butene unit content (M, mole %): -2.6 M + 130 = -1.5 M + 75, the elastomer is excellent in rigidity, heat and scratch resistances, transparency, heat sealability, and blocking resistance. It can be produced by using a specified transition metal compound as the catalyst.
