Abstract: Synchronized broadcast transmits a same broadcast content using a same waveform from multiple transmitters. Transmitters each apply a same spreading code for broadcast transmissions. In 5 a spread-spectrum communication system having a time division multiplexed forward link, a synchronized broadcast transmission is inserted into a broadcast slot. One embodiment employs an Orthogonal Frequency Divisional Multiplex (OFDM) waveform for the synchronized broadcast. An OFDM receiver is then used to process the received synchronized broadcast transmission. An alternate embodiment implements a broadcast Pseudo-random Noise (PN) code for use by multiple 10 transmitters. Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein relate to methods and systems for pilot grouping, route protocols, and scheduling in multi-carrier communication systems. In an embodiment, an access terminal may group a plurality of pilot signals characterized by different frequencies into one or more pilot groups, each pilot grouping being identified by a plurality of parameters (e.g., a PN offset and a group ID). Each pilot group may include pilot signals having substantially the same coverage area. The access terminal may further select a representative pilot signal from each pilot group for pilot strength reporting. The access terminal may also use the pilot grouping for effective set management.

An access terminal may be configured to determine a forward link quality metric associated with eac h of a plurality of sectors serviced by a plurality of access points; assign credits to each sector in relation to the forward link quality metric; and change a data source control (DSC) value if the credits accumulated for a no n- serving sector at a DSC change boundary is greater than a predetermined threshold, where the non-serving sector and the serving sector for the acces s terminal belong to different cells. The access terminal may be further configured to change a data rate control (DRC) cover in accordance with the DSC change. The use of DSC may provide an early indication of handoff, there by allowing the service outage associated with server switching to be substantially reduced.

Abstract: The present aspects relate to methods and apparatuses to power off a modem receiver or components of the receiver at a time prior to the end of the frame based on data in the frame being received and properly decoded before the end of the frame. In an aspect, the apparatuses and methods provide power saving in a wireless device, and include receiving data within a frame at a user equipment, determining whether all payload packet data has been correctly decoded prior to an end of the frame, and powering down a receiver component for a portion of a remainder of the frame in response to determining that all payload packet data has been correctly decoded and where a first time period to a next scheduled overhead bit transmission period of a slot in the frame is greater than a second time period corresponding to a warm-up period for the receiver component.
