Abstract:
A method and apparatus for removing a member from an active call in a group communication network provides for receiving a member list from a user and sending a request to a server to remove the member list from the active group call. The method and apparatus further provides for announcing each member in the member list that they are being removed from the group call, receiving acknowledgement from each member in the member list, and sending a response to the request, indicating that the member list has been removed.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for initiating a group call in a group communication network provides for receiving a request for initiating a group call based on a member and initiating the group call based on the received member list. The method and apparatus also provides for announcing the group call to each member in the member list, receiving acknowledgement from a member who wishes to participate in the group call, and forwarding media to the member after its traffic channel is re-established. The method and apparatus also provides for a significant reduction in the actual total dormancy wakeup time and latency by exchanging group call signaling even when mobiles are dormant and no traffic channel is active.

Abstract:
An apparatus to form a group of communication devices over a distributed network is claimed. A first node establishes a first channel with a first communication device. At least one second node establishes at least one second channel with at least one second communication device. A controller electrically connected to the first node and the at least one second node comprises a database module. The database module comprises identification information of each of the communication devices of the group. The controller is dynamically configurable such that any single communication device of the group is capable of sending packet data through its respective channel to the other communication devices of the group.
Abstract:
A push-to-talk communication device to participate in a group communication net (100) is claimed. The group communication net (100) comprises a controller (104) to manage the group communication net (100) and interface with the push-to-talk communication devices (108, 112 and 116). A processor converts information signals into packet data suitable for transmission over a distributed network. The processor may also have identification information, and updates its identification information when its current identification information has or is about to change. The processor then transmits its new identification information to the controller (104). The push-to-talk devices (108, 112 and 116) also comprise a transmitter to transmit packet data through a first channel to the controller. A receiver receives packet data through a second channel from the controller. The push-to-talk devices (108, 112 and 116) also comprise a user activated mechanism to activate the transmitter when a user of the communication device wishes to transmit packet data to the controller.
Abstract:
An apparatus to form a group of communication devices over a distributed network (10) is claimed. A fist node (22) establishes a first channel with a first communication device (12). At least one second node establishes at lea st one second channel with at least one second communication device. A controll er (18) electrically connected to the first node (22) and the at least one seco nd node (24) comprises a database module. The database module comprises identification information of each of the communication devices (12, 14, 16, 17 and 20) of the group. The controller is dynamically configurable such tha t any single communication device of the group is capable of sending packet da ta through its respective channel to the other communication devices of the gro up.
Abstract:
The disclosed embodiments provide methods and apparatus for detecting or announcing presence and/or location information in a wireless communication network. In one aspect, a method for sharing user information in a wireless communication network includes sending an alert from an originator to a target, the alert including information about the originator and requesting information about the target, receiving information by the originator from the target in response to the alert, and updating information in the originator about the target, based on the received information. In another aspect, a method includes sending at least one alert from an originator, requesting information about at least one target user; receiving information by the originator in response to the alert; and updating information by the originator about the target user, based on information received.
