Abstract: 1,272,990. Aerials. SONY CORP. 10 Sept., 1969 [10 Sept., 1968; 14 Dec., 1968], No. 44682/69. Heading H4A. An aerial comprises a loop aerial element consisting of at least three arcuate conductive members. Output terminals are provided on the adjacent ends of two of the members, and impedance means having values which satisfy stated mathematical relationships are connected between other adjacent ends of the said members. In one embodiment, two upper and lower loops are respectively made up of members 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33, 34, 35, Fig. 15, and said loops are spaced apart by conductive bars 41, 42, 43, 44. Feeder terminals 18 are provided on the adjacent ends of the members 29, 32 and a dummy load Z 3 is connected between the adjacent ends of the members 30, 31. Air gaps between the adjacent ends of the pairs of members 29, 30; 31, 32; 33, 34; 34, 35 provide capacitive impedances and two telescopic dipole arms 46, operating at a lower frequency than the loop element, are connected through trap circuits 47 to the ends of the members 29, 32 which are remote from the terminals 18. The dipole arms may alternatively be connected through trap circuits to the feeder terminals (18), Fig. 18A (not shown), or to the bars (41), (42) Fig. 18B (not shown). In another arrangement the dipole arms are connected to shortcircuited ends of quarter-wave lines (the wavelength (#) being that corresponding to the midband frequency of operation of the loop element). The other ends of said lines are respectively connected to the adjacent ends of the members (33), (34) and (34), (35), Fig. 18D (not shown). The dipole arms may alternatively be connected to the junctions of two pairs of #/4 lines, one pair being open-circuited, and the other pair being connected to the feeder terminals (18), Fig. 18E (not shown). Two pairs of dipole arms may be provided, each arm being connected through a trap circuit to an end remote from the feeder terminals of one of the members (29), (32), (33), (35), Fig. 18C (not shown). The arrangement as shown in Fig. 15 may be used without dipole arms being provided (Figs. 12, not shown), and in another embodiment four arcuate sheet members are used, each having an outline as defined, for example, by the members 32, 35 of Fig. 15 and the vertical lines joining their ends (Fig. 11, not shown). Three impedance elements are provided, respectively connected across gaps between the members. In other embodiments, members forming single loops are used. Adjacent ends of members may be bridged, for example, by inductors (Fig. 7, not shown) or by active elements (Fig. 9, not shown). It is stated that suitable selection of the impedance elements reduces sidelobes and increases operating bandwidth. Specification 1,250,562 is mentioned.

Abstract: METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRANSMITTING DATA IN AN ERROR CORRECTION FORMAT Successive data words are distributed to a plurality of respective channels to form successive data blocks, each data block being comprised of the data words in the plural channels. A first error correcting code is generated as a function of the words included in the data block, this first error correcting code being adapted for use in correcting at least one word which may be erroneous in the data block, as when the data block subsequently is received or reproduced. The data words included in the data block are selectively delayed, by different respective time delays, to form a time-interleaved data block comprised of time-interleaved data words. A second error correcting code is generated as a function of the words included in the time-interleaved data block, this second error correcting code being adapted for use in correcting at least one word which may be erroneous in the time-interleaved data block, as when the time-interleaved data block subsequently is received or reproduced. The first and second error correcting codes and the time-interleaved data block are combined to form a transmission block which may be transmitted or recorded on a suitable record medium.

Abstract: Blocks of digital words containing an error correcting word are time interleaved into time-interleaved blocks of words, each of which contains no more than one word from any one of the original blocks. The time-interleaved blocks of words are converted to a bit-by-bit serial digital data stream which is time-base compressed to permit insertion therein of an error detecting code word and synchronizing signals. The resulting serial data stream may be recorded on a VTR. After reproduction, each time interleaved block is checked for errors and is then time de-interleaved to reconstruct the original blocks of digital words. If one or more errors exist in words in a time-interleaved block, no more than a single word in any one of the time de-interleaved blocks contains an error. Single-word errors in a reconstructed block are corrected using the error correcting word accompanying the reconstructed block.

Abstract: A method and appratus are provided for communicating a sequence of digital information words. The information words are separated into a sequence of odd information words and a sequence of even information words. The separated odd and even information words are time-displaced from each other by a predetermined amount. The odd information words are encoded in an error-correcting code, and the even information words are separately encoded in a similar error-correcting code. The encoded time-displaced odd and even information words are combined into a transmission block, and this transmission block is transmitted or recorded. In one embodiment, the information words are encoded by generating an error-correcting word in response to the odd information words and by generating an error-correcting word in response to the even information words. The respective error-correcting words are interleaved with the odd and even information words. To recover the original information words, the transmission block is received and the odd and even information words are decoded so as to correct errors therein. The time displacement between the decoded off and even information words are removed. If an information word contains an uncorrected error therein, a correct information word is approximated therefor by interpolating adjacent decoded odd or even information words so as to approximate a correct even or odd information word, respectively. A corrected sequence of information words formed of the decoded and approximated information words is recovered.

Abstract: A plurality ? of data blocks, each comprised of at least two data words and a parity word associated bit for bit with the data words, together with an error correcting code word associated with each data and parity word, are transmitted in interleaved relation. ? data words and associated error correcting code words followed by ? parity words and associated error correcting code words and followed by ? data words and associated error correcting code words, all transmitted in seriatim, are received and stored, and each error correcting word is decoded to ascertain the presence of an error in each received data or parity word. All of the data words and the parity word in a block are read out simultaneously, together with an indication of the presence of errors in any of the read out data and parity words; and in the event of an error, an erroneous data word is corrected in accordance with the parity word in that block; and if parity correction cannot be achieved, an erroneous data word is replaced by the average of the data word in the preceding and next following data block. In a preferred application, each data word is formed of a plurality of multi-bit samples of, for example, interleaved left channel and right channel audio signals. The overall length of ? data words and associated error correcting words plus ? parity words and associated error correcting words is greater than the longest expected error length, such as a burst error.
