A stereo microphone unit adapted to be installed in a video camera or the like, comprising a cabinet, two nondirectional microphones disposed with a predetermined distance therebetween on the wall of the cabinet for collecting outside sound signal, delay means for delaying each output of the microphones by a time period corresponding to the predetermined distance, and subtracter means for subtracting the output of the delay means relative to one microphone from the output of the other microphone. A stereo audio signal is provided only with regard to the output sound signal of any frequency lower than a predetermined frequency of 6 kHz or so.

It is judged before recording programming whether analog copy is inhibited or digital copy is inhibited from information on DM_copy_control_description and information on CGMS or M-CGMS. If analog copy is inhibited, analog programmed recording is made nonselectable by using a video mouse; and if digital copy is inhibited, digital programmed recording conforming to the IEEE1394 is made impossible. When digital copy or analog copy is inhibited, a warning to the effect is indicated. Before a programmed recording starts, if the output of an IRD is being recorded by another device, if an MD synchronous recording is being performed, if the recording device is in operation, if no tape or no disk is loaded, if the tape or disk is inhibited from being recorded, if the recording mode of the recording device is an analog recording mode, or if the object is a record inhibited part of a smart file, an indication to the effect is made and the programmed recording is canceled.

A CPU (12) of a data transmitter (10) crates simple copy control information roughly defining the copy control status of data to be transmitted according to minute copy control information defining the copy control status of the data, adds the simple copy control information to the packet header of a data packet for transmitting the data, add the minute copy control information to the data, and transmits the simple and minute copy control information along with the data from an input/output interface (16) through a transmission line (30) to a data receiver (20). A CPU (22) of the data receiver (20) analyzes the copy control status of the data contained in the data packet on the basis of the simple and minute copy control information contained in the data packet, and conducts copy control of the data by means of a media access section (26) according to the results of the analysis.

For example, when a viewer instructs an IRD to purchase a musical composition C at timing t0 during the sixth transmission of the composition data, ordinarily the composition data sent by the seventh transmission immediately after the sixth transmission is downloaded. If the download of the composition data sent by the seventh transmission has failed from some cause, the composition data is re-downloaded by the eighth transmission to compensate for the failure. Therefore the last transmission of the composition data about each composition is used for re-downloading, and the timing at which the download of the composition data sent by the transmission just before the last one is ordered is set by using the time that has elapsed from the start time of the program as the purchase limit time.
Abstract:
The invention relates to properly protecting broadcast contents stored on a receiver side from copying without permission and illegal use in server type broadcasting. According to the invention, contents are sent from a broadcast sending side in a state in which copyright information for the contents is added to the contents. On the other hand, on a receiving client side applicable to server type digital broadcasting, it is possible to perform appropriate control for reproduction of contents and recording reservation on the basis of copyright information for contents such as the number of times of reproduction of contents, restriction of display resolution at the time of reproduction of contents, and an expiration date of content reproduction. According to this copyright information, it is possible to perform detailed control for a display device incorporated in or connected to a receiver.
Abstract:
Elements required for a digital television receiver are divided into a plurality of digital signal processor blocks and a host microprocessor block. The blocks are connected by general buses, through which commands and streams of data are transferred to control the operations of the blocks. According to the method, replacing blocks is only needed to adapt a variety of digital television broadcasting systems of different carriers, different modulation techniques and different compression techniques, thus increasing the efficiency in development. It is also adaptable to new services easily by providing additional hardware.

Data input to an encrypting/decoding portion are input to an erroneous decoding detector. The erroneous decoding detector judges whether data input are correctly decoded or not. For example, if it is judged that audio data input are not correctly decoded, the erroneous decoding detector does not output the audio data or outputs data indicating silence, thereby executing mute processing.

A switching portion of an IRD supplies a non--descrambled TS (transport stream) received from a front end portion or a descrambled TS received from a descrambler to a DVCR connected to an IEEE 1394 interface. In addition, data received from the DVCR is supplied to the descrambler.
