    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust from easily entering a disk cartridge during recording and reproducing by providing a shield means for limit entry of external air into the disk cartridge during recording and reproducing of data to the recording medium of a disk. SOLUTION: A shield means is composed of a cover 242 to be bonded to a cartridge holder 56 to shield a head inserting aperture from the upper side, a spacer 243 for shielding the circumference of upper side head inserting port of a cartridge 5, a spacer to be bonded to the bottom plate 41a of a chassis to shield the circumference of the lower head inserting hole of a cartridge 5, a spacer 245 for shielding the external circumference of a center core hole 6 and a spacer 246 for shielding the external circumference of a spindle motor 51. Thereby, during recording and/or reproducing of a floppy disk 1, dust never flows into the inside, together with the external air, of the cartridge 5 through the head inserting hole and center core hole 6.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a large capacity floppy disk cartridge for inhibiting erroneous insertion to an existing small capacity floppy disk drive. SOLUTION: The thickness H11 of this cartridge 45 for freely rotatably housing a large capacity floppy disk HFD inside is constituted to be H11 = about 5 mm, the thickness H12 of the lower shell 44 of the cartridge 45 is constituted to be H12 = about 1.5 mm and the thickness H13 of an upper shell 43 is constituted to be H13 = about 3.5 mm. Thus, the inconvenience of erroneously inserting this large capacity floppy disk cartridge into the small capacity floppy disk drive, damaging the thin type large capacity floppy disk of low rigidity and destroying the data of a narrow track width is prevented and high safety is secured.

The ring-shaped motor 13 arranged on the outer periphery of the arm shaft 2 effectively generates torques in the whole area of the outer periphery of the arm shaft 2. Thus, the maximum radius and the height size of the motor 13 as against the center of the arm shaft 2 are reduced, and the whole device is miniaturized and thinned.

CONSTITUTION:A discoid scale 31 is provided, which is made of numerous slits 40 arranged radically to the center of a disk 39 formed in an annular shape at prescribed intervals in the circumferential direction of the disk 39, is fitted to the outer periphery of a rocking central shaft, such as an arm shaft, etc., and rotated together with an rocking member of a head arm, etc. The discoid scale 31 constituted in such way uniformly expands or contracts in all directions when a temperature change occurs. When, for example, the scale 31 expands, a slit detecting point A1 moves to a point A3 on the extension line in the lengthwise direction of the slit 40 of the scale 31 and the rotational angle of the head arm goes to a fixed angle theta1 even under a normal and high temperature conditions and no off-track of the head occurs. Thus occurrence of an error due to a change in temperature is prevented and highly accurate detection is made possible.
