Abstract:
A CsX:Eu phosphor produced by heating a cesium halide with a Europium compound containing one or more halides selected from the group consisting of F, Cl, Br and I. Preferably the Europium compound is selected from the group consisting of EuX'2, EuX'3 and EuOX', X' being one or more halides selected from the group consisting of F, Cl, Br and I. The invention also includes novel phosphors having properties inherent to the manufacturing process as well as other phosphors containing a mixture of Br and Cl in the cesium halide, europium doped phosphor. A method for preparing a binderless phosphor screen using these phosphors and a method for recording and reproducing an X-ray image using such screens are also disclosed.

A fuel cell catalyst comprising platinum, titanium and tungsten. In one or more embodiments, the concentration of platinum is less than 60 atomic percent, and/or the concentration of titanium is at least 20 atomic percent, and/or the concentration of tungsten is at least 25 atomic percent.

The present invention discloses methods and materials for constructing combinatorial libraries composed of organometallic compounds immobilized on solid supports and encoded with detectable tags. The encoded library of organometallic compound is especially useful for rapidly screening large numbers of member compounds for catalytic performance. These immobilized catalysts can be pooled in a single reactor where they are screened for a predefined property, such as catalytic activity and selectivity.

A device for the generation of specific colored light including white light by luminescent down conversion and additive color mixing based on a light-emitting diode 'LED'(1) comprising a semiconductor light-emitting layer emitting near UV light about 370-420 nm or blue light about 420-480 nm and phosphors (6) which absorb completely or partly the light emitted by the light-emitting component and emit light of wavelengths longer than that of the absorbed primary light, wherein the light emitting layer of the light emitting component is preferably a Ga(In)N-based semiconductor; and at least one of the phosphors (6) contains a metal sulfide fluorescent material activated with europium containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ba, Sr, Ca, Mg and Zn; and/or at least another phosphor (6) which contains a complex thiometalate fluorescent material activated with either europium, cerium or both europium and cerium containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ba, Sr, Ca, Mg and Zn; and at least one element selected from the group consisting of Al, Ga, In, Y, La and Gd.
