    Abstract: PURPOSE:A biaxially oriented poly-p-phenylene sulfide film having improved thermally stabilized dimensional stability and mechanical properties and transparency, having a specific melt viscosity and density. CONSTITUTION:Poly-p-phenylene sulfide having a melt viscosity of 100-600,000 poise at 300 deg.C at a shear rate of 200 (sec) and not less than 90% of a repeating unit shown by the formula is molded into a film, which is quenched at a cooling rate not more than 5 deg.C/sec. to form a non-crystalline transparent film having a crystallinity not more than 15%. The film is then biaxially orientated at 80-120 deg.C at an area ratio not less than 3 to make a biaxially oriented film having a density not more than 1.330 at 25 deg.C, which is subjected to heat setting at a termperature in the range of 180 deg.C to the melting point of the polymer for one second-ten minutes under stretch to give a transparent biaxially orientated poly-p-phenylene sulfide film having a density of 1.330-1,400 at 25 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:The titled molded article, consisting of a polysulfide ketone having a specific structure and a density of polymer alone within a specific range, improved heat resistance at high temperatures and mechanical characteristics and improved productivity due to the constituent polymer having a simple structure. CONSTITUTION:A molded article obtained by using a polysulfide ketone, consisting of units expressed by the formula, and having 1.28-1.32g/cc density. The above-mentioned polymer is preferably obtained by sulfiding a 4,4'-dihalobenzophenone, e.g. 4,4'-dichlorobenzophenone, with sodium sulfide in an organic polar solvent, e.g. dimethylacetamide. The heat treatment for producing the above- mentioned molded article is preferably carried out at 180-310 deg.C for 10sec-1hr.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:In polymerizing polyphenylene sulfide from a p-dihalobenzene and a sulfur source in a polar solvent of organic amide, to obtain a polymer stable to heat, ultraviolet light, etc., by controlling the remaining water content in the system in a specific range. CONSTITUTION:In polymerizing (preferably at 220-280 deg.C for 1-5hr with stirring) a p-dihalobenzene (preferably p-dichlorobenzene, and 0.95-1.10mol p-dichlorobenzene is used based on a sulfur source) with the sulfur source (preferably sodium sulfide) to give polyphenylene sulfide shown by the formula in a polar solvent of organic amide (preferably N methyl 2 pyrrolidone), the remaining water content in the system is adjusted to 0.3-0.95mol, preferably 0.4- 0.90mol based on the sulfur source.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled film which has good heat resistance, electrical and mechanical properties and is suitable for use in electronic parts etc., by casting an uncyclized polyamic acid solution of a specified intrinsic viscosity on a base material, requlation its concentration, cyclizing it partially for molding and increasing a cyclization ratio by heating after solvent removal. CONSTITUTION:A film is formed by casting a stock solution principally comprising a solution of a 10-45wt% concentration composed of a polar amide solvent (e.g. dimethylacetamide) and a substantially uncyclized polyamic acid (e.g. a reaction product of 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl ether and pyromellitic dianhydride) of an intrinisic viscsity of at least 0.4dl/g on a base material, removing part of the solvent to increase the polymer concentration to at least 50% and the cyclization ratio of the polymer to at least 30%. Then, the solvent is further removed in an aqueous medium to lower the solvent content below 10% and the film is heated above 200 deg.C to raise the cyclization ratio above 90%, thereby obtaining the purpose film.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain film excellent in smoothness and uniformity of thickness, by a method wherein the title polymer having a specific melt viscosity is melted, extruded on a cooling medium at a specific temperature in the form of film, stretched uniaxially under special conditions and then stretched in the orthogonal direction and fixed thermally. CONSTITUTION:The titled polymer wherein the content of constitutional unit of the formula is at least 90mol% and the melt viscosity at 300 deg.C is 100-600,000 poise under a shear rate 200/sec is melted and extruded on a cooling medium having a surface temperature 120 deg.C or less in the form of film. The film obtained by such a method having a density 1,320-1,330 is stretched 3-4.7 times at 85-100 deg.C in a uniaxial direction, then 2.7-4.5 times at 87-110 deg.C in the direction at right angles to the uniaxial stretching direction and then fixed thermally at 200-275 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a useful film for packing material or the like excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength and the like, by carrying out biaxial orientation and heat setting under a specified condition employing a highly polymerized poly-p- phenylene sulfide having a p-phenylene sulfide skeleton. CONSTITUTION:A poly-p-phenylene sulfide containing at least 90mol% of a component as shown by the formula is produced by the method of reacting a dihalide with an alkali sulfide in a polar solvent at a high temperature, or the like. An amorphous film composed of the poly-p-phenylene sulfide is stretched in one direction within the range of 80-120 deg.C two-to five-fold at the first stage, until the index of birefringence of the film falls in the range of 0.05-0.3. Then, it is further stretched in the direction at a right angle to the stretching at the first stage 1.5-to 5-fold within the range of 80-150 deg.C. Finally, it is heat-set under the tension at a temperature from 180 deg.C to the melting point.
