    Abstract: An improved magnetic recording medium comprising a flexible support consisting of at least about 70 mol % of p-oriented aromatic polycarbonamide units. The polycarbonamide may include substituent groups on the aromatic nuclei. The support has a density of more than about 1.41 g/cm3 at 25 DEG C and 0% relative humidity, and a tensile modulus higher than about 800 kg/mm2 in at least one direction, combined with a thin layer of magnetically susceptible material deposited electrically or dispersed in a nonmagnetic binder. The magnetic recording medium in this invention shows excellent running performance and has superior dimensional stability both thermally and hygroscopically.

    Abstract: A biaxially oriented poly-p-phenylene sulfide film comprising recurring units of the formula a melt viscosity of more than 100 poise and less than 600,000 poise at a shear rate of 200 sec-1 and at 300 DEG C., and a specific gravity of which is more than 1.330 and less than 1.400. The film has improved mechanical properties, thermal dimensional stability and high temperature durability. Typical applications of the film are as electrical insulation, capacitor, magnetic recording medium, packaging material, and so forth.

    Abstract: A stabilized polyphenylene sulfide is provided which comprises a recurring unit wherein the average n between foreign units is greater than about 5, and about 0.05 to about 10 mole % per phenylene sulfide unit of an aromatic constituent chemically bonded with said polyphenylene sulfide chain, said aromatic constituent containing an electron attractive group selected from the group consisting of -SO2-, -CO-, -NO2, -SO3R, -COOR, wherein R is H, lower aliphatic hydrocarbon groups, aromatic hydrocarbon groups or alkaline metals, and -CONH-, and said stabilized polyphenylene sulfide has a melting point in the range of about 250 DEG C. to about 350 DEG C. Also provided is a method for preparing stabilized polyphenylene sulfide comprising preparing a polyphenylene sulfide consisting mainly of a recurring unit wherein the degree of polymerization of said recurring unit is greater than about 20, and reacting said polyphenylene sulfide with about 0.05 to about 20 mole % per said phenylene sulfide unit of a halogenated aromatic compound having an electron attractive group.

    Abstract: A magnetic recording medium comprises a film of an aromatic polyamide having at least 50 mole % of recurring units represented by the following general formula: … … wherein m and n are integers of from 0 to 4, with the proviso that the case where both of m and n are 0 is excluded, and at least one high performance magnetic layer of a metal or metal compound vacuum-deposited on the aromatic polyamide film. This magnetic recording medium shows a reduced dimensional change and is substantially free of curling or breakage due to elongation, and is excellent in flatness and adhesive strength between the base film and the magnetic layer. Accordingly, this magnetic recording medium is suitable for high-density magnetic recording.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain composite, which is favorable in adhesion and planar shape, by a method wherein aromatic polyamide film, which contains bonding unit represented by the specified general formula and the density and product of thermal shrinkage factor and thermal expansion coefficient in the plane of film of which are respectively specified, and metal are compounded. CONSTITUTION:The aromatic polyamide film composite concerned is made by compounding specified aromatic polyamide film and metal. In this case, the specified aromatic polyamide film contains 50mol.% or more of bonding unit represented by the separately shown general formula, in which (m) and (n) are integers of one to four and, at the same time, m+nnot equal to 0. The density of polymer only is substantially set to be 1,490g/cm or more. Further, the product of the thermal shrinkage factor and thermal expansion coefficient to at least one direction in the plane of film is set to lie within the range of 1.0X10 -1.0X10 [(mm/mm/ deg.C)X(%)]. Thus, neither curling nor wrinkle can develop and composite, which is excellent in humid characteristics and adhesion properties and favorable in planar shape, is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the ratio of removing polyphenylene sulfide from a filter and facilitate after washing, by a method wherein a filter on which polyphenylene sulfide is adhered is washed with an alkali sulfide and an organic solvent while heating. CONSTITUTION:N-methylpyrrolidone as an organic solvent and an alkali sulfide are charged into an autoclave, and the filter to be washed on which polyphenylene sulfide is adhered is placed into the autoclave. Then, the temperature is gradually elevated and the liquid temperature is maintained at a temperature of 100-400 deg.C. The pressure in the autoclave is maintained at 1-20gk/cm , and the treatment is continued at said temperature and said pressure for at least 1hr. After the treatment, the temperature is lowered, whereby the pressure is returned to normal pressure and the filter can be taken out by opening the autoclave. Thereafter, oligomers of polyphenylene sulfide formed through depolymerization and the like are washed out from minute parts of the filter with a fresh organic solvent.
