    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title compsn. giving a molded article excellent in the flame retardance, heat resistance, mechanical properties, and appearance by melt mixing a liq. crystal polyester, a high-molecular flame retardant, and a filler in a specified ratio under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:In producing the title compsn. comprising 100 pts.wt. liq. crystal polyester (e.g. a compd. of the formula wherein k/l/m/n=75/10/15/25), 0.2-30 pts.wt. high-molecular weight flame retardant (e.g. a brominated polystyrene), and 5-200 pts.wt. filler (e.g. a glass fiber), the polyester is melt mixed first with the retardant first and then with the filler, or vice versa.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To offer printed boards excellent in solder heat resistance and in molding workability by using a melt-moldable liquid crystal polyester having a specific structural unit. CONSTITUTION:Used is a melt-moldable liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units I, II, III and IV where structural unit I has a 40-90mol% of [I+II+III] and structural units II/III have mol ratios 9/1-1/9. Preferably the structural unit I is a polyester prepared from p-hydroxy benzoic acid; structural unit II is a structural unit consisting of 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl; structural unit III is 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene; and structural unit IV is terephthalic acid. In the case of loading a liquid crystal polyester with filler, preferable loading is 200wt% or less to the liquid crystal polyester 100wt%, particularly, 15-100wt%.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal polyester resin composition having excellent hydrolysis resistance and heat cycle resistance by adding an organic epoxy compound and a carbodiimide compound to a liquid crystal polyester comprising specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal polyester resin composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of an anisotropic melt phase-forming liquid crystal polyester having a thermal deformation temperature of >=150 deg.C and comprising structural units of formulas I, II and III [R1 is a group of formula IV, V, VI, etc.; R2, R3 are a group of formula IV, V, VII (X is H or Cl), etc.], the sum of the groups of formulas I and II being 75-95mol%, the amount of the group of formula III being 25-5mol% based on the total amount of the composition and the molar ratio of the group of formula I to the group of formula II being 75/25-95/5, (B) 0.005-10 pts.wt. of an organic epoxy compound, preferably a compound of formula VIII (Ar is 6-20C aromatic group or alicyclic group; n is 0-20), (C) 0.005-10 pts.wt. of a carbodiimide compound and preferably further (D) 0-200 pts.wt. of a filler.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve productivity, by coagulating a latex of a polymer plasticizable at 100-300 deg.C, dehydrating and drying the coagulated polymer by passing the polymer together with vinyl polymer pellets through a screw type squeezing dehydration dryer and continuously recovering the polymer in the molten state. CONSTITUTION:Into a coagulation tank 3 is introduced from a storage tank 1 a latex of a polymer which is hard at normal temperature and is plasticizable at 100- 300 deg.C, such as a vinyl polymer latex, a latex of a graft polymer prepared by grafting a vinyl monomer onto a rubbery polymer or a latex of these mixed polymers. A coagulant is introduced to the tank 3 from a storage tank 2. The coagulation is continuously fed to a filter 4. Then, the polymer cake is conveyed at a constant rate to a screw dehydrator 8. On the other hand, vinyl polymer pellets are fed from a hopper 5 through a metering feeder 6 to the dehydrator 8. The polymer dried in the dehydrator 8 is passed through a cooling bath 9 and cut and pelletized by a cutter 10. The volatile matters from the dehydrator 8 are sucked and exhausted via a vent receiving tank 11 by a vacuum pump 5.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a copolyester which can give a molding excellent in heat resistance and mechanical properties simply by melt polymerization by using 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl having an Na content of a specified small value as the 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl which forms a specified structural unit among the contained four kinds of structural units. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a copolyester comprising structural units of formulas I, II, III and IV, wherein the 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl which forms the structural units of formula II has an Na content of 0.1-10ppm. Thus, a copolyester which can give a high polymer simply by melt polymerization and can give a molding excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties and color tone can be obtained. In the above formulas, R1 is a group of formula V, VI, VII or VIII or the like; R2 is a group of formula V, IX, X or XI or the like; and X is H or Cl.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a thermotropic liquid crystal polyester compsn. excellent in the heat resistance represented by the hydrolysis resistance and long-term aging properties by compounding an org. epoxy compd. into a thermotropic liquid crystal polyester comprising specific structural units. CONSTITUTION:0.01-10 pts.wt. org. epoxy compd. is compounded into 100 pts.wt. thermotropic liquid crystal polyester which forms an anisotropic molten phase having a heat distortion temp. of 150 deg.C or higher and comprises structural units of formulas I to IV in molar ratios of (I+II)/(I+II+III), III/(I+II+III), and I/II of 0.750.95, 0.25-0.05, and 75/25-95/5 respectively, wherein R1 is formula V; and R2 is formula VI. The org. epoxy compd. is not particularly limited.
