    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition having excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, flame retardance, etc., and also improved mechanical properties such as impact characteristics by blending a specific modified polyarylene sulfide with a specific amount of an aromatic polysulfone. CONSTITUTION:(A) 99-1 pt.wt. modified polyarylene sulfide prepared by reacting A1:100 pst.wt. polyarylene sulfide comprising 100-0.1mol% repeating unit shown by formula I (R1 to R4 are H or 1-4C alkyl) and 0-99.9mol% repeating unit shown by formula II with A2:0.05-20 pts.wt., preferably 0.1-10 pts.wt. substituted olefin compound (e.g. alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid or glycidyl ether) containing one or more functional groups selected from carboxylic acid group, carboxylic acid anhydride group, carboxylic acid ester group, metallic salt group of carboxylic acid, epoxy group and imide group) in the molecule is blended with (B) 1-99 pts.wt. aromatic polysulfone.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyarylene sulfide resin compsn. excellent in the mechanical properties such as impact strength as well as the heat and water resistance by mixing a specific modified polyarylene sulfide with a thermoplastic polyamide. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. polyarylene sulfide comprising 100-0.1mole% repeating units of formula I (wherein R -R are each H or 1-4C alkyl; there is no case when all of them are H) and 0-99.9mole% repeating units of formula II is reacted with 0.05-20 pts.wt. substd. olefin contg. in its molecule at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of carboxylic, carboxylic anhydride, carboxylic ester, metal carboxylate, epoxy, and imide groups to give a modified polyarylene sulfide. 99-1wt.% said sulfide is mixed with 1-99wt.% thermoplastic polyamide to give a polyarylene sulfide resin compsn, which is excellent in the impact properties while retaining the excellent heat and chemical resistance, flame retardancy, etc., inherent in polyphenylene sulfide.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a block copolymer of improved heat resistance by forming a polyphenylene sulfide-containing reaction solution in the first step and performing the formation and bonding of a phenylene sulfide ketone part in the second step by using the reaction solution. CONSTITUTION:An aprotic polar organic solvent (e.g., N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) containing a dihalobenzene (e.g., p-dichlorobenzene) and an alkali metal sulfide (e.g., sodium sulfide) is heated to form a reaction solution containing a polyphenylene sulfide (step 1). A dihaloaromatic ketone (e.g., 4,4'- dichlorobenzophenone) is added to this reaction solution, and the obtained mixture is heated in the presence of an alkali metal sulfide and an aprotic polar organic solvent to form a block copolymer (step 2). Thus, a block copolymer comprising a polyphenylene sulfide part and a polyphenylene sulfide ketone part can be obtained, and this copolymer is excellent in heat resistance.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To selectively separate the objective substance by subjecting an isomer mixture of halogenated benzene derivatives to distillation or diffusion treatment, removing hydrogen halides, water and low-boiling components contained in the above-mentioned mixture and bringing the resultant mixture into contact with a zeolite adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:An isomer mixture of halogenated benzene derivatives (e.g., dichlorobenzene or chlorotoluene) is subjected to diffusion treatment for blowing an inert gas and removing volatile components or distillation treatment by a conventional method to remove hydrogen halides, trace amounts of water and low-boiling components formed as a by-product and the resultant mixture is then brought into contact with a zeolite adsorbent (e.g. ZSM-5) to afford the objective isomer. Since deterioration of the zeolite adsorbent can be prevented by previously removing the hydrogen halides, water and low-boiling components formed as the by-product, the objective isomer can be separated for a long period even without deteriorating productivity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a polyphenylene sulfide, useful as fibers, electronic parts, etc., and free of alkali metal salts by heating a specific polyphenylene sulfide in the presence of an organic or inorganic acidic compound in an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:A polyphenylene sulfide which is a polymer, containing an alkali, metal salt and containing >=90mol% recurring units expressed by the formula is heated and reacted with an organic or inorganic acidic compound (e.g., preferably acetic or hydrochloric acid) in an organic solvent, preferably N-methylpyrrolidine, etc., without containing water at 50-300 deg.C temperature for 1-10hr and the resultant polymer is then washed with distilled water or deionized ion exchange water several times to afford the objective polymer.
