    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin compsn. which gives a molded article excellent in thin-wall flowability and mechanical properties and having a high vibration- damping capability, a smooth surface, and small variations in physical properties by compounding a liq.-crystalline resin with aluminum borate whisker having a particle size and a relative particle amt. satisfying a specific relation. SOLUTION: The liq.-crystalline resin (A) is a liq.-crystalline polyester, a liq.-crystalline polyesteramide, etc., capable of forming anisotropy when melted. A liq.-crystalline polyester is a polyester which have ethylenedioxy units as the essential units and comprises structural units represented by formulas I to IV (wherein R1 is at least one kind of a group selected from among groups represented by formula V; R2 is at least one kind of a group selected from among groups represented by formula VII; and X is H or Cl).     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connector excellent in dimensional precision and weld strength with little burr by molding a liquid crystalline resin composition obtained by blending a filler blended to a specified liquid crystalline resin which has a melt viscosity of a specified range by injection molding. SOLUTION: A liquid crystalline resin composition contains 0-400 parts by weight of a filler blended to 100 parts by weight of one or more liquid crystalline resins selected from liquid crystalline polyester and liquid crystalline polyester amide forming an anisotropic melting phase. This composition having a melt viscosity within the following condition range is injection molded, whereby a fine pitch connector molded product having a pitch space between terminals of 0.8mm or less. Temperature: melting point of liquid crystalline resin (Tm)+10 deg.C, nozzle size: nozzle diameter 1.0mmϕ, nozzle length: 10mm, (melt viscosity) the melt viscosity at a shear rate of 1200s is 200Pa.s or less, and the melt viscosity at a shear rate of 12s is 300-2500Pa.s.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:An optically active ether compound expressed by formula I (R1 is 4-18C alkyl or alkoxy; R2 is 2-10C alkyl; X is formula II or formula III; * is asymmetric carbon; m and n are 1 or 2) wherein one or two of ether one or both H of two kinds of aromatics different in position may be substituted by Cl or F. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula VII is reacted with a com pound expressed by formula VIII to afford a compound expressed by formula IX, which is subjected to catalytic hydrogenation to give a compound expressed by formula X. Then the compound expressed by formula X is reacted with a compound expressed by formula XII obtained by reacting a compound expressed by formula XI with SOCl to provide the compound expressed by formula I wherein X is formula II and n is 1.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:The optically active 6-substituted-pyridine-3-carboxylic acid ester compound of formula I (R is 2-14C alkyl; R2 is optically active alkyl). PREPARATION:The objective compound of formula I can be produced by (1) heating and refluxing the compound of formula II and excess thionyl chloride for several hr, (2) distilling out unreacted thionyl chloride under reduced pressure and (3) reacting the resultant compound of formula III with the compound of formula IV in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent such as benzene, toluene, etc., in the presence of an organic basic compound such as pyridine, triethylamine, etc., at room temperature or under heating for several hr.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To economically obtain the titled compound useful as a germicide, antifugal agent, etc., in high yield, by reacting 4-hydroxybenzoic acid with chlorine in methanol as a solvent and carrying out nuclear chlorination and esterification reaction in the same system. CONSTITUTION:1mol 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is dissolved in methanol in a molar amount of 5-40 times, preferably 10-20 times based on the 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and chlorinated with preferably 0.9-1.1mol, based on 1mol above-mentioned 4-hydrobenzoic acid, chlorine, preferably under ordinary pressure, preferably at 0-30 deg.C and subsequently esterified at 30-60 deg.C to carry out the nuclear chlorination and esterification reaction in the same system is one stage and afford the aimed compound. EFFECT:Since the methanol as a solvent acts also as a methyl esterifying agent and the reaction, isolation and purification can be carried out in one stage to simplify the isolation and purification stage, this method is industrially advantageous. USE:A raw material for high-performance polyester films having improved mechanical strength, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a packing agent having not only good separation efficiency but also sufficient mechanical strength and easily adaptable to high performance chromatography and having excellent separation capacity even to a roughened plane compound, by fixing a copolymer consisting of a specific optically active monomer and a vinyl silane compound to a silica gel. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer, which consists of an optically active monomer represented by formula I (wherein R1 is phenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl or lower alkyl and phenyl and 1- or 2-naphthyl may have a substituent. R2 is lower alkyl, R3 is H or CH3 and * is asymmetric carbon) and a compound represented by formula II (wherein R4, R5 and R6 are alkyl, alkoxy, OH or halogen and one or more of R4, R5, R6 is alkoxy and halogen), is obtained so that the mol ratio of the compound represented by the formula I and the compound represented by the formula II is 0.5-80. This copolymer is fixed to a silica gel particle pref. having a uniform particle size and an average fine pore size of 100Angstrom or more. By this method, a packing agent excellent in the optical separation capacity of a wide range of a racemic mixture.
