Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance, flame retardance, appearance after molding, and electrical properties by compounding a specific resin compsn. with an org. bromine compd., an antimony compd., an epoxy compd., and a filler. CONSTITUTION:A resin compsn. is obtd. by compounding 1-10wt.% thermotropic liq. crystal polyester having a deflection temp. under load of 150-280 deg.C and comprising at least one unit selected from the group consisting of units of formulas I, II, and III, and IV or V, [wherein X is formula VI to X; carbonyl groups in formula V are attached to p- or m-position to each other and 60% or higher are at p-position; and the molar amt. of the unit of formula V is substantially equal to that of the sum of the units of formulas II, III, and IV] with 99-90wt.% thermoplastic resin selected from the group consisting of a polyamide, polyoxymethylene, polycarbonate, etc. Then, 100 pts.wt. resulting compsn. is compounded with 0.5-50 pts.wt. org. bromine compd., 0-30 pts.wt. antimony compd., 0.01-20 pts.wt. epoxy compd., and 0-200 pts.wt. filler to give the title compsn.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a flame-retardant resin composition excellent in mechanical properties, appearance of the molded product and heat resistance by mixing a composition comprising a specific thermotropic liquid crystal polyester and a thermoplastic resin with a filler, an organoboron compound and an antimony compound. CONSTITUTION:The title flame-retardant resin composition is obtained by mixing 100 pts.wt. composition, which comprises 1-99wt.% thermotropic liquid crystal polyester having structural units of formulae I, II and V and a structural unit selected from the group consisting of formulae III and IV (wherein X is 1,4- phenylene, t-butyl-1,4-phenylene, biphenylene or 2,6-naphthylene; CO groups of formula V are in the p- and m-positions relative to each other and the p- position amount to 65% or more) with the amount of structural unit V being equal to the amount of II+III+IV by mole and has a deflection temperature under load of 150-280 deg.C and 99-1wt.% thermoplastic resin such as polyamides, polyoxymethylenes, polycarbonates, polyallylene sulfides, polysulfones, polyethers, or ether ketones, with 0-200 pts. filler, 5-50 pts. organoboron compound, and 0-30 pts. antimony compound.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal polyester excellent in mechanical properties and capable of giving a molding lowly anisotropic in mechanical properties and resisting to fibrillation by acetylating a specified aromatic carboxylic acid, a specified bisphenol, a specified aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a specified polyester obtained from ethylene glycol and polymerizing the reaction mixture through the elimination of acetic acid. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal polyester is obtained by treating p- hydroxybenzoic acid (A), an aromatic hydroxy compound (B) selected from among 8 members including 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (C) selected from among 5 members including terephthalic acid and a polyester (D) obtained from ethylene glycol and component C with acetic anhydride to acetylate their hydroxyl groups, and the obtained reaction mixture is polymerized through the elimination of acetic acid. This polyester comprises structural units (I) (of the formula), II (-(OR1O)-), III (-(OH2CH2O-) and IV (-(CR2-CO)-), wherein I+II is 30-77mol% based on I+II+III, III is 70-23mol% based on I+II+III, the molar ratio I/II is 75/25-95/5, and IV is equimolar to II+III.
