Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition excellent in heat resistance, mechanical properties and frame retardancy and useful for sealing semiconductors, by mixing an epoxy resin with a curing agent and a halogenated imide compound. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. epoxy resin (A) (e.g., cresol novolak epoxy resin) having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule and an epoxy equivalent of, preferably, 500 or below is mixed with (B) a curing agent (e.g., phenol novolak resin) in an amount to give a chemical equivalent ratio of 0.5-1.5 in relation to component A, (C) 5-60pts.wt. halogenated imide compound of formula I or II (wherein X is Br or Cl, Y is a bivalent saturated hydrocarbyl group and n is 1-4), e.g., ethylenebis(tetrabromophhtalimide) of a halogen content >=25wt% and, optionally, (D) 0.1-10pts.wt. curing catalyst [e.g., 2,4,6-tris(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol], Sb2O3 in an amount of 1-30pts.wt. which is equivalent to one Sb atom per 0.2-5 halogen atoms of component (C), a flame- retarding aid, a filler and a mold release.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain exterior furnishings of an automobile, which can meet requirements for properties such as dimensional stability, resistance to heat and moisture, etc. while retaining characteristics inherent to polyamides, by melt-molding a resin compsn. consisting of a specified noncrystalline polyamide and a toughening agent. CONSTITUTION:Exterior furnishings for an automobile is obtd. by melt-molding a resin compsn. consisting of a blend of 100pts.wt. following noncrystalline polyamide [1] and 5-100pts.wt. toughening agent. [1]: a polyamide obtd. by polycondensing a mixture of 90-1wt% at least one aliph. diamine (a) of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different groups and each is H or methyl) and 10-99wt% at least one C6-C12 straight-chain aliph. diamine (b) with an equimolar amount of a dicarboxylic acid component (mixture) consisting of 100-20wt% isophthalic acid and 0-80wt% terephthalic acid or a nylon salt. Examples of the toughening agent are modified polyolefins obtd. by introducing a monomer component having a functional group such as a carboxyl group into a polyolefin.
