    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the time needed for a liquid crystal injecting process shorter than before and to leave no air bubble by providing a liquid crystal injection guide formed by laminating colored layers on a black matrix used as a liquid crystal injection hole when a liquid crystal cell is assembled. SOLUTION: The black matrix 14 is provided at the peripheral edge of a color filter 12 and there is a part used as the liquid crystal injection hole 16 when the liquid crystal cell is assembled by sticking the black matrix on a transparent electrode substrate. On the part used as the liquid crystal injection hole 16, the liquid crystal injection guide 18 is provided. The liquid crystal injection guide 18 is constituted by laminating two or three colored layers. This liquid crystal injection guide 18 suppresses the generation of a turbulent flow of liquid crystal when the liquid crystal is injected, and consequently the loss of injection pressure (pressure obtained by subtracting injection resistance from the pressure difference between the reduced pressure of the liquid crystal cell and external pressure) is reduced, so that the liquid crystal can be injected in a shorter time than before.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color liquid crystal display device which is easily manufactured and has high contrast, a wide visual field angle, and superior display quality by providing spacers, formed by putting colored layers of the three primary colors one over another, on the black matrix of a color filter substrate. SOLUTION: On the transparent substrate 1, the black matrix is provided by patterning a light-shield material. Then pixels are formed of the colored layers 3 to 5 provided in desired patterns by an arbitrary number of colors, and on the black matrix, spacers are provided by putting the colored layers 3 to 5 one over another. Further, an overcoat film is formed on the colored layers 3 to 5 when necessary. Consequently, even when color overlap spacers provided on the side of a color filter substrate come into contact with an opposite substrate, a common electrode 12 never short-circuits with wiring and pixel electrodes 11 on the opposite substrate side. Therefore, restrictions on the size of the spacers are relaxed, and the formation becomes easy in terms of the number of processes and machining precision.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device which has an excellent display grade, substantially prevents the occurrence of problems, such as crosstalks, and has excellent reliability by using a substrate having spacers which are recessed in the sectional shapes of the uppermost layer and are fixed in non-display regions. SOLUTION: The substrate for the liquid crystal display device having the spacers 16 to 18 which are recessed in the sectional shapes of the uppermost layer in the non-display regions and are fixed is used. The spacers 16 to 18 come into contact with a counter substrate when the liquid crystal display device is manufactured. As a result, the specified gas is held with the counter substrate and liquid crystals are injected into this gap. The height (the height up to the vertex of the recessed shapes when the flat parts near the center of the spacers is determined as a reference) of the recessed shapes is 0.05 to 2μm. If the height is too low, the effect for preventing the display defect, etc., by the nonuniformity of the cell gap is not exhibited. If, conversely, the height is too large, there is a possibility that chipping is induced in the spacers by the load at the time of a rubbing treatment or at the time of assembling the panel.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a defect in orientation and a defect in display, and to make display quality excellent by providing a spacer which is fixed in a non- display area, and making the spacer higher at its center part than at its peripheral edge part. SOLUTION: The substrate for the liquid crystal display device has the fixed spacer, which is higher at the top-layer center part than at the top-layer peripheral edge part, in the non-display area. The top-layer center part of the spacer is normally 0.05 to 2μm, preferably, 0.1 to 1μm higher than the top-layer peripheral edge part. The spacer which is higher at the top-layer center part than at the top-layer peripheral edge part comes into surface contact with the substrate that the spacer faces when the substrate is pressed, so wires and an orientation film on the opposite surface are hardly flawed and the display quality seldom decreases owing to a display defect or orientation defect. Further, this spacer makes it smooth to inject liquid into between the spacer and opposite substrate, so that an air bubble is hardly formed.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color filter which does not require a process of forming an orienting film on the color filter and to more effectively apply an electric field on a liquid crystal in a liquid crystal display device which is driven by a transverse electric field, by directly forming a color film on a transparent substrate and then forming an overcoat film which can be treated for orientation on the color film. SOLUTION: This color filter has pixels comprising color layers 3 formed into a desired pattern for each color of desired colors and has such a layer structure that the color layers 3 are formed on a transparent substrate 1 and an overcoat film 4 is formed on the color layers 3. The overcoat film 4 is formed to protect the color films 3 and to flatten the surface of the color filter. By subjecting the film 4 to orientation treatment such as rubbing, the film 4 has a function to orient liquid crystal molecules which are brought into contact with the film 4. As for orientation treatment, rubbing method is preferably used, because rubbing can be done in a rather simple device and industrially high productivity and high orientation performance can be obtd.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin solution composition which has excellent applicability and capability of leveling and can give alignment films having good rubbing resistance by mixing a polyimide and/or its precursor component with a polyimidesiloxane precursor component and a solvent component. SOLUTION: This composition comprises a polyimide and/or a precursor component thereof (e.g. a polymer component obtained by reacting 3,3',4,4'- benzophenonetetracarboxylic anhydride with a diamine component), a polyimidesiloxane precursor component, and a solvent component. Most of solutions of a conventional polyimide and/or its precursor component for forming liquid crystal alignment films does not always have sufficient applicability and rubbing resistance. The above resin composition solution for forming alignment films has good applicability and can give an alignment film having excellent rubbing resistance. This film can be desirably used for a liquid crystal display driven by an electric field in parallel with the substrate, can dispense with the step of applying an alignment film, and can give a color filter having good levelness.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the need for forming oriented films on colored films which allow orientation treatments by directly forming colored films on the transparent substrate. SOLUTION: The colored films 3 which allow the orientation treatments are directly formed on the transparent substrate 1 of the color filters obtd. by forming the colored films 3 on the transparent substrate 1. The color filters have pixels consisting of the colored layers formed to desired pattern forms by colors in the arbitrary number of colors and are so formed that the colored layers come into direct contact with a liquid crystal layer at the time of constituting the liquid crystal display device by forming the colored layers on the transparent substrate 1. The color filters are used for the color liquid crystal display device driven by an electrode field (transverse electric field) of the direction parallel with the transparent substrate 1. Any films are usable for the colored films 3 of this case, insofar as the films have the performance to allow the transmission of light of arbitrary colors and are capable of orienting the liquid crystal molecules in contact with the colored films 3 by an orientation treatment method, such as rubbing.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color filter with a smaller number of stages by forming a transparent electrode on a transparent substrate and forming an oriented colored film on the transparent electrode. SOLUTION: The color filter to be used in a liq. crystal display is obtained by forming a transparent electrode 2 on a transparent substrate 1 and forming a rubbed colored film 4 on the transparent electrode 2. Any process for imparting a performance to orient a liq. crystal molecule in contact with the colored film or overcoat film can be used in the orientation. Concretely, rubbing, oblique vapor deposition, grating, etc., are exemplified. By using this color filter, an oriented film need not be separately formed on the color filter surface since the colored layer or overcoat layer has been rubbed, and the color filter is used as such to produce a liq. crystal display.
