Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection apparatus for a phosphor formed on the back plate of a plasma display panel in which even a micro defect, e.g. a point defect, of a phosphor can be detected with high accuracy and highly reliable inspection can be ensured by processing detected information optimally, and a method for manufacturing the back plate of a plasma display panel employing the inspection apparatus. SOLUTION: An apparatus for inspecting the coating state of an RGB phosphor on the back plate of a plasma display panel comprises means 5 for irradiating a specified coating position of an RGB phosphor with UV-rays, an image pickup means 6 including light receiving elements arranged one-dimensionally while having a pixel resolution finer than the RGB arranging interval of a plurality of phosphor layers arranged in parallel on the back plate of a plasma display panel and producing an image signal by detecting emission of light from each specified coating position of an RGB phosphor, and a processing means 8 for determining the coating state of RGB phosphor by operating the image signal from the image pickup means 6 for each pixel and comparing it with a specified reference value.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently correct recessed and protruding defective parts formed on electrodes or barrier ribs in the manufacturing process by molding the defective part of barrier ribs formed on a substrate into a fixed shape, and then applying a correcting paste thereto. SOLUTION: After barrier ribs are formed on a substrate or dielectric layer, the defective state of the barrier ribs is examined and corrected. Prior to application of a correcting paste to the defective part, the defective part is corrected to a fixed shape. The molding of the defective part is preferably performed by use of laser beam by cutting by use of a cutter such as diamond blade, or the like. The correcting paste is then applied to the molded defective part. The use of an application needle is suitable for the application of the paste. The correcting paste is mainly formed of an inorganic powder component, an organic binder component and a solvent component. For an electrode correcting paste, a conductive material is further contained. After the application of the correcting paste, baking is performed as occasion demands. Otherwise, a preliminarily molded correcting chip may be fitted to the defective part to correct it.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform effective correction without deteriorating the shape of previously formed barrier ribs by applying a barrier rib correcting paste containing glass powder, having a softening point which is lower than that of glass powder contained in barrier rib forming paste to a defective part on the barrier rib during a manufacturing process and thereafter baking it. SOLUTION: Barrier rib correcting paste mainly comprises components such as an inorganic powder, an organic binder and a solvent, glass powder containing silicon oxide and/or boron oxide are used as an inorganic component, and its softening point is preferably set 10-100 deg.C lower than that of glass powder in barrier rib forming paste. In order to control the constriction rate in the height direction during baking to 5% or less, 1-50 wt.% of at least one kind of titania, alumina, silica, barium titanate and zirconia is preferably contained as a filler component. The repair of a defective part is performed at 550 deg.C or lower by spot-baking of a paste application part by means of a laser beam having a wavelength which is not in the absorption band of a board.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable cell gap and obtain superior display quality eventually by providing a resin black matrix consisting of resin and a light shield agent on a transparent substrate, and arraying colored layers formed of the three primary colors on it. SOLUTION: One substrate has the black matrix 2 provided on the transparent substrate and the colored layers 3 to 5 of the primary colors are arrayed. This color filter has spacers 17 formed by laminating the said colored layers 3 to 5 on the black matraix 2. Namely, those spacers 17 are provided on the resin black matrix 2 nearby pixels of a specific color. Consequently, variance in height among the spacers 17 on a screen becomes small and the stable cell gap is obtained when the liquid crystal display device is manufactured. Further, the variance in area among the spacers 17 on the screen becomes small and a stable gap is obtained when the liquid crystal display device is manufactured.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the generation of ozone by detecting the emission of a fluorescent substance for every coating position with a photo detector that is arranged one- dimensionally and comparing an image signal to be outputted with a specific reference value. SOLUTION: When a carrying device 3 carries a rear-surface plate 1 to an image pickup position, it gives a rear-surface plate approach signal to a control device 10. The control device 10 gives an image read start signal to an image-processing device 8, and the image-processing device 8 starts reading an image signal that is outputted from an image pickup device 6. An RGB signal amplification device 9 amplifies each RGB signal with a magnification being determined for each type for an image signal being inputted from the image pickup device 6 and outputs the signal to be image- processing device 8. The image-processing device 8 stores an image signal and detects a defect that is generated in the rear-surface plate 1 by image processing, thus installing an ultraviolet ray application means close to the rear-surface plate, reducing the intensity of ultraviolet rays, and maintaining a specific inspection performance. Also, the need for an ozone treatment facility is eliminated to reduce the cost.
