    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve operation efficiency, by holding each edge of plural glass tubes in between with pressure by a pair of metal molds and simultaneously performing a pinch seal for them, while joining them together in fusion with each other. CONSTITUTION:After each edge of glass tubes 1 and 1 is heated and softened respectively, and these edges are held in between with pressure by the said paired metal molds 2 and 2. Since these edges are each closed and there is formed a pinch seal part 5 connecting mutually these edges of both glass tubes 1 and 1 in a mechanical manner, the joining of a pinch seal at the edge and these mutual pinch seal edges in simultaneously performable. Therefore, opera tion gets off with yet less stage of work and, what is more, excellent in effi ciency, and since these mutual edges of glass tubes 1 and 1 are joined by the pinch seal part 5, mechanical strength is improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To get rid of the occurrence of cracks as well as to make any deformation in an opening form so as not to be entailed by making a process forming a cutoff part at an end edge of a continuous wall so as to heat and excise it by a burner after an extrusion molding process by a pair of metal molds and that before cutting a bulb edge. CONSTITUTION:A glass bulb 6 being molded by a pair of metal molds 3 and 3 is provided with an almost U-shaped discharge passage 7, and installs a continuous wall 8 between walls of adjacent discharge passages. When a flame of a burner 12 is directed toward the continuous wall 8, the continuous wall 8 at this position is heated and softened and receives injection gas pressure of the burner, thus a cutoff part 13 is formed. Annealing takes place, and furthermore afterward, a large diametral opening end 9 as traces of a large diametral glass tube 1 by cutting the glass bulb 6 is cut down, whereby openings 11 and 11 turning to both ends of the discharge passage 7 are formed. The cutoff part 13 is being formed in the continuous wall 8 situated between these openings 11 and 11, therefore electrode mounts 14 and 14 can be sealed to these openings 11 and 11 as they are left intact.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To secure a light emitting area and to make a variable color indicated by said area, by containing light emitting capillary tubes coated with several kinds phosphor with mutually different colors on their internal surfaces and having an electrode at each one end and an opening at each other end within a transparent outer tube and by making the above electrode common to each one of light emitting capillary tubes. CONSTITUTION:One end of a transparent outer tube 3 is closed by a shperical portion 4, while the other end is opened, and a stem 5 of a disc shape is sealed air-tightly at the opening end and an independent discharge space 6 separated from outside is formed within the outer tube 3. Light emitting capillary tubes 7-9 bent in an U letter shape are contained within the space 6, and electrodes 11 and conductive terminals 12, 12 connected thereto are sealed to one each end of the capillary tubes 7-9, while the other ends are opened. Also, phosphorous films 17-19 emitting monochromatic colored light different from each other are applied on internal surfaces of the capillary tubes 7-9, and a common electrode 21 is sealed on the stem 5 facing each opening portion 16. And mercury and an inert gas are sealed within the space 6.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To realize sufficient emissional surface area and luminance for the direction of display by foming a thin glass tube section the longer diameter of the cross section of which is larger than the longer diameter or tube diameter of fine glass tube sections, being followed by curving the thin glass tube section to form the entire glass bulb into almost U-form. CONSTITUTION:A bulb 1 consists of fine glass sections 2 and 2 having electrodes at their ends and a thin glass tube section which works as a main display area and is airtightly connected to the other ends of the fine glass sections. The bulb 1 curved at the thin tube section 3 has an almost U-like shape as a whole. The vertical section of the thin tube section 3 has bow-like form. The thin tube section 3 is expanded perpendicular to display direction (B) and has an almost circular shape when seen from display direction (B). The inner surface of the thin tube section 3 of the bulb 1 is coated with a phosphor film. Electrode leads 4 and 4 are led out from the bulb 1. The bulb 1 is manufactured by heating an area of the thin tube section to be curved of a glass tube having the thin section and the fine tube sections 2 and 2, followed by curving the glass tube in such a manner that the expanded surfaces of the thin tube section 3 correspond to the outer side 3b and the inner side 3c of the curve.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the illuminance of a place directly below a curved fluorescent lamp with both ends thereof provided with electrodes installed by sealing and with the inner surface thereof provided with a phosphor film by making the shape of the lamp depressed in approximately a same plane, with the longer side of its cross section tilted with respect to said plane, thereby increasing the amount of light in the tilted direction. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent lamp consists of an approximately annularly curved bulb 10, electrodes 2 provided on both ends of said bulb 10, a phosphor film 4 provided on the inner wall of the bulb 10, and a cap 3 bridged at the portion of the electrode 2. With this constitution, the cross section of the bulb 10 is made, unlike usually employed circular cross section, of a depressed circular shape with its axis passing the longer side made not parallel but tilted with respect to the plane of the curvature of the bulb 10. When installing the bulb, the depressed flat surface of the bulb 10 is made to face upward or downward to widen itself in respective directions so that light intensity directed downward is increased with the synergistic effect of a reflecting cover arranged above the bulb.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high density on a screen and prevent the light leakage between inner tubes by forming multiple discharge spaces with reflecting plates coated with phosphors and arranged in an envelope and arranging a cathode at the concentrated end of these discharge spaces. CONSTITUTION:When a filament coil (cathode) 4 is energized and the voltage is selectively applied to multiple anodes 13, a discharge occurs in discharge spaces 7 of reflecting members 6 between the filament coil 4 and the anodes 1 applied with the voltage. As a result of this discharge, luminescent colors in response to phosphors 10, 11, 12 on reflecting surfaces facing the discharge spaces 7 are outputted through the tip openings of the reflecting plates 5, and the different luminescent colors in response to the anodes 13 applied with the voltage can be obtained. Thereby, a high density on a screen can be obtained, multiple discharge spaces are formed by the reflecting plates arranged in an envelope 1 and the cathode 4 is arranged at the concentrated end of the discharge spaces, thus the light leakage can be prevented.

The cutoff scheduled part 13' is molded by projections 20 and 20 formed by these metal molds 3 and 3 and escape parts surrouned by these projections 20 and 20. This cutoff schedule part 13' is cut by external force added.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce thermal distortion of glass bulbs while making them small- sized and light-weihing and having a stabilized electric property by forming a gang member with a metal member while coating its inside consisting of glass and ceramics with an electrically insulating film. CONSTITUTION:Since a gang member 12 is formed with a metal plate to simplify mass production, a captioned fluorescent lamp can be made small-sized and light-weihing by thinning the plate thickness of the metal plate. Further, since the upper surface of the upper lid 17 of the gang member 12 is coated with a glass thin film 18, both glass bulbs 10 and 11 have good affinity and when the respective connection parts 10a and 11a are rigidly fixed by heating, their fixing can be strengthened. Moreover, one time of heating when the glass bulbs 10 and 11 are fixed to the gang member 12 is sufficient so as to be able to reduce thermal distortion to be generated on the glass bulbs 10 and 11. Further, since the inside of the body 16 of the gang member 12 is coated with a glass thin film 18 to electrically insulate for preventing emission of impure gas from the metal, discharge can be stabilized.
