    Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce leak current and luminance drop, and enhance lamp efficiency by setting the proximity facing distance between a fluorescent lamp and the reflecting surface of a reflecting plate proximatly facing the fluorescent lamp within the specified region. CONSTITUTION: The proximity facing distance A between a fluorescent lamp 13 and a reflecting plate 11 is set to either one of 1.5 mm or more but 6 mm or less. When the proximity facing distance A between the fluorescent lamp 13 and the reflecting plate 11 is gradually decreased than 1.5 mm, the amount of leak of high frequency current from the fluorescent lamp 13 to the reflecting plate 11 is increased, luminance on the lamp bulb surface is decreased, light diffusion plate surface average luminance which is the average luminance on the top surface of a light diffusion plate 12 is substantially decreased. When the proximity facing distance A between the fluorescent lamp 13 and the reflecting plate 11 is gradually increased than 1.5 mm, the amount of leak of high frequency current is gradually decreased, luminance on the lamp bulb surface is made almost constant at luminance ratio of 100% without drop, but the average luminance on the light diffusion plate 12 is substantially decreased in reverse proportion to increase in the proximity facing distance A.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent mercury from adhering on the display surface of a bulb to enhance the efficiency of a lamp by forcing the most of mercury to adhere to expansion areas swelling from the display surface of the bulb for outputting the light emitted inside a discharge passage regulator. CONSTITUTION:When an anode 9a and a cathode 5 are for example, electrified to make discharge, the discharged beam is throttled through the smaller diameter side end of the central hole 6 of a discharge passage regulator 4 so that the phosphor film 11 in a parallel discharge passage 8a having the electrified anode 9a emits a light beam with required color tone. This light beam is output form the large diameter opening end of the discharge passage regulator 4 over the display surface 2a of a bulb 1. Then the mercury inside a bulb 1 is stored in mercury sumps 13a-13d inside respective expansion areas 12a-12d and also sticks to the inner peripheral surface of expansion areas 12a-12d. According to such institution, the enhancement of lamp efficiency is attempted as well as adhesion of mercury to the display surface 2a of the bulb 1 is prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the number of manufacturing processes for a fluorescent lamp having a bent discharge passage, by performing each pinch seal of plural glass tubes and interconnection of each glass tube continuously with a pair of metal molds. CONSTITUTION:After each edge of glass tubes 1 and 1 is heated and softened respectively, these edges are held in between with pressure by a pair of metal molds 2 and 2, and these edges are subjected to a pinch seal between pressing surfaces 3 and 3, while they are held in between with pressure even at mutual connecting recessed parts 5 and 5, and discharge spaces 7 and 7 of each glass tube are secured by forming surfaces 4 and 4, and under this state, a pressure differential is given to the inner part of each of these glass tubes 1 and 1, blowing through the softened glass between these connecting recessed parts 5 and 5 themselves, whereby there is formed a conducting passage conducting these edges themselves of plural glass tubes. Therefore, as compared with the conventional method, operation gets off with yet less stage of work and, what is more, since these edges themselves of glass tubes 1 and 1 are mechanically connected by a pinch seal part 6, mechanical strength of the completed bulb comes high.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the rise in the temperature of a bent fluorescent lamp, by flattening the cross-section form of the discharge path of the lamp to increase the surface area of the path to augment the heat radiation area of the lamp. CONSTITUTION:A discharge path 10a in a glass tube 8a has a flat cross-sectional form such as an ellipse, an oblong and a crescent. For that reason, the glass tube 8a surrounding the discharge path 10a has a flat cross-sectional form as well. The tube 8a is continuously bent to be shaped nearly as U so that the major axes x-x of the flat cross-sectional forms of the mutually adjacent portions of the discharge path 10a extend nearly as V. Since the surface area of the discharge path 10a is made larger than that of a discharge path of circular cross section, the heat radiation surface of the former is also made larger than that of the latter to reduce the rise in the temperature of a fluorescent lamp 6. Since the surface area of the tube 8a is increased, the area of deposition of a fluorescent substance thereon can be augmented to increase the light emission area thereof.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a long discharge path easily so as to improve illumination efficiency by connecting multiple glass tubes together via conductive metal objects with glass bond to form a single discharge path which has many curved parts. CONSTITUTION:Multiple glass tubes consisting of glass tubes 21 curved into J shape, glass tubes 22, 23 curved into U shape, etc. are connected end to end with glass bond via copper or other conductive metal 24 to form a single discharge path. Electrodes 26 are sealed to the openings at both ends of the discharge path to form a curved fluorescent lamp 20 which is used as a substitute for an incandescent lamp. Thus a discharge path with many curved parts can be formed easily and easy starting is enabled by the conductive metal objects 24 which make relaying points for starting discharge. Therefore high illumination can be obtained with a long discharge path of a small cross sectional area.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of light emission, by providing each light- permeable container with an annular discharge groove surrounded by the inner and outer circumferential walls of the container and the radial wall thereof to increase a total discharge length and reduce the absorption of ultraviolet rays performed by mercury atoms. CONSTITUTION:Each of light-permeable containers 1, 2 comprises an outer and an inner vertical circumferential walls 11, 12 and an annular bottom 10. An annular discharge groove 13 is defined by the walls 11, 12 and the bottom 10 so that discharge is caused in a space comprising the annular discharge grooves 13 and discharge holes 15, 16 of the containers 1, 2. Since the discharge space is curved, the total length of the discharge is made large. Since the discharge is caused near the outer circumferential walls 12 of the containers 1, 2, the ratio of absorption of ultrasonic rays performed by mercury atoms is reduced. The ratio of simulation of coating films 17 of a fluorescent substance on the inside surfaces of the outer circumferential walls 12 is thus augmented to enhance the efficiency of light emission.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to increase the brightness and reduce the weight of a fluorescent lamp by constructing an envelope in separate bodies one of which houses one of a pair of electrodes, and the other one is equipped with a liminous room and made of at least a metal. CONSTITUTION:When discharge occur between a group of all anodes 28a to 28d and a group of respective cathode 29a to 29d, and upper envelope 21 works as an ionization electrode and lowers the starting voltage. While, ultra violet rays generated in all luminous small rooms 24a to 24d excite respective fluorescent film 27 and each fluorescent film illuminates in its own color. Accordingly, white color, etc., are emitted from face glass 23 by mingling all luminous colors of luminous rooms 24a to 24d. The plate thickness of the upper edge of the upper envelope 21 is reduced to about 1% of the length of one side of glass 23, and the area occupied by it can be reduced. Accordingly, the luminous area of the glass 23 can be expanded, and the brightness of a fluorescent lamp can be increased, also both envelope 21 and 22 can be made of light weight metal plates, and further the thickness of the metal plate can be reduced, thus a fluorescent lamp can be made in small size and its weight can be reduced.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To expand the light output area practically in a simple structure by providing a light display surface in one side, and diffusing the light by the outer periphery of the transmissible area. CONSTITUTION:One end of a bulb 1 made of a transparent glass, the upper end, for example, is formed in a square tube form display end 2. The display surface 2a of the display end 2 is divided into a specific number of sections, four sections, for example, by a partition plate 7. In the sections, four parallel discharge passages 8a, 8b, 8c, and 8d are formed, and phosphor membranes of different colorings are provided respectively. A light diffusion membrane 12 is formed in a ring-form to cover the outer surface of the outer periphery of the light transmissible area 2c of the display surface 2a to diffuse the light transmitting in the direction alpha in the light transmissible area 2c to the outer side. Consequently, the light output area is expanded practically, and the square tube form of the display 2 is convenient to collect plural sections of such a composition.

CONSTITUTION: A non-conductive coating is provided by adhesively coating a non-conductive reflective film 56 on the front surface of a metal plate 55 and by coating the surface of the reflective film 56 with a non-conductive translucent film 57. Thereby, electric field by a high frequency current of a lamp 4 is interrupted and an induction current is not sent to the metal plate 55 in order to prevent a leakage of a lighting current, and in addition, noise radiated from a lighting circuit and a lamp 4 is shielded by the metal plate 55, in order to prevent an optical image of a liquid crystal being inconveniently disturbed.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high density on a screen and prevent the light leakage by forming multiple discharge spaces with reflecting plates coated with phosphors and arranged in an envelope and blocking the base end side of the discharge spaces where a cathode is arranged. CONSTITUTION:When a filament coil 4 is energized and the voltage is selectively applied to multiple anodes 12, a discharge occurs in the discharge spaces 7 of reflecting plates 5 between the filament coil 4 and the anodes 12 applied with the voltage through discharge passing holes 11 on the reflecting plates 5. As a result of this discharge, luminescent colors in response to phosphors 8, 9, 10 on the reflecting surfaces facing the discharge spaces 7 are outputted through the tip openings of the reflecting plates 5, and the different luminescent colors in response to the anodes 12 applied with the voltage can be obtained. Since the base end side of the reflecting plates 5 is blocked, the light leakage can be prevented.
