Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color picture tube capable of reducing displacement of beam landing by enhancing curved surface holding strength of a mask body. SOLUTION: As for this color picture tube, a mask body 46 of an almost rectangular shadow mask 35 consists of an effective surface with many holes for an electron beam to pass through, a nonporous part surrounding its periphery and a skirt part bent on the periphery, and its structure is that the effective surface of the mask body 46 or the nonporous part is formed in a curved surface with a curvature in its short axis direction, the radius of curvature of the effective surface or the non-hole part in the short axis direction on the short axis is made smaller than that for other parts and the short axis end of the effective surface or the nonporous part is sunk from a level of a neighboring part on its long side.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color picture tube, in which deterioration of color purity due to deformation and doming is not liable to be generated even in the case where the curvature of an effective surface of a mask main body is reduced. SOLUTION: In a color picture tube, an effective surface 24 opposite to a phosphor screen formed in the inner surface of a panel of a mask main body 26 is formed into a irregular shape having a curved part 29o projected in the panel direction and having a curved part 29i having a curvature reversing curved part in the opposite direction to the curved part 29o in a long axis X direction and formed into a curved shape having a constant curvature or a curvature to be changed with a function of higher order in a short axis Y direction, and the mean curvature in the long axis direction is set smaller than the mean curvature in the short axis direction.

The mask main body and the mask frame are welded together at plural points 33a to 33c in a position close to the opening edge of the tongue piece parts and a position closer to the main surface than a position close to this opening edge.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color cathode-ray tube with an enhanced image grade by preventing deterioration in color purity owing to beam landing displacement caused by deformation or doming of a shadow mask. Spaces between passing holes along the major axis X direction of the mask body increase from the center of the mask body toward the ends of the major axis, and the rate of change of spaces between passing holes has a maximal value between the center of the mask body and each end of the major axis.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration of color purity and brightness difference to enhance image quality. SOLUTION: An outer surface of a panel effective part 20 is formed into substantialy a flat face, and a phosphor screen 24 wherein stripe-like phosphor layers and light-absorbing layers are arranged in parallel is formed in an inner face of the effective part 20. The panel effective part 20 is formed to make its diagonal axis end parts thick by 8-15 mm with respect to its central part, and to make light transmitance of glass in the central part set within 40-60%. The screen 24 is formed to make a ratio of a width of the light-absorbing layer to a pitch of the phosphor layer eqaul or more in the central part with respect to a peripheral part of the panel effective part 20. A large number of electron beam passing-through apertures is formed in a mask main body 25 of a shadow mask 27, and an aperture pitch in the peripheral part is set to be 1.3-1.4 times with respect to that in the central part.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deterioration of color purity caused by doming of a shadow mask when actuated and deformation of a mask body in a manufacturing process, by forming an effective surface of the shadow mask body into a curved surface having specified curvatures for a long axis direction and a short axis direction. SOLUTION: The effective surface 27 of the mask body 29 of a shadow mask 31 in a color picture tube has a curved surface having a curvature of 0-2×104 (1/mm) from the center of the effective surface 27 to the intermediate part in its long axis direction (X axis), a bigger curvature in its peripheral part than one in the intermediate part and a curvature in its short axis direction (Y axis) gradually and continuously growing up to at least 2/3 of the distance from the center of the effective surfaces 27 to the end of the effective diameter of the short axis. Thereby, curved surface holding strength of the shadow mask 31 is enhanced, and since deformation of the effective surface 27 of the mask body 29 can be suppressed, deterioration of color purity caused by a slippage of beam landing onto a three color phosphor layer can be reduced.
