The scattering of the unwanted light in exposure reduced, and the illuminance of the exposure range on the inside surface of the panel 1 is readily optimized and the satisfactory fluorescent surface 3 may be formed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the deterioration of color purity and lowering of luminance while restricting the deterioration of mechanical strength of a shadow mask by forming a hole diameter of a coincidence part of a large diameter and a small diameter of a shadow mask at the maximum at an intermediate part between the center of the shadow mask and the peripheral part in the longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: Hole diameter of a coincidence part of a large hole and a small hole of a shadow mask for practically deciding size of the electron beam passing through an open hole is gradually increased from the center of the effective surface to an intermediate part, and gradually reduced from the intermediate part to the longitudinal end thereof, and the hole diameter provided over from the center to the longitudinal end through the intermediate part is formed with the maximum at the intermediate part. With this structure of shadow mask, deterioration of mechanical strength of the shadow mask flattened in response to the flat effective part of a panel is restricted, and hole diameter of a coincidence part of the large diameter and the small diameter for practically deciding size of the electron beam passing through the open hole can be appropriated.
