    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce 5-cyanopentanal useful as a production raw material for hexamethylenediamine useful as a raw material for nylon 66 (an industrial resin) and as a raw material and intermediate for various chemicals in high yield without necessitating complicate separation of by-products and causing the corrosion of the apparatus. SOLUTION: The objective 5-cyanopentanal is produced by reacting 1- formyloxy-2-nitrosocyclohexane, 1-hydroxy-2-nitrosocyclohexane or 2- hydroxycyclohexanoxime with formic acid preferably at 60-130 deg.C in liquid phase under normal pressure or positive pressure. Preferably, the amounts of the reagents are 10-300 times weight for formic acid and 1-300 times weight for the reaction solvent (e.g. acetonitrile or formic acid) based on the 1-formyloxy-2- nitrosocyclohexane, 1-hydroxy-2-nitrosocyclohexane or 2-hydroxycyclohexanone oxime. The compound is easily separable from the system by distillation. The compound is also useful as a raw material for ε-caprolactam known as a raw material for nylon 6.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate for an additive of a medicine, agricultural chemical and high polymer in high yield, by reacting a cyanoformate with an active bromomethylene compound in the presence of a low-valent metal halide, and treating the reaction product with water, etc. CONSTITUTION:A cyanoformate of formula I (R is 1-4C alkyl), e.g. methyl cyanoformate or butyl cyanoformate, is reacted with an active methylene compound, e.g. methyl bromocyanoacetate or propyl bromocyanoacetate, of formula II (R is 1-4C alkyl; Y is group of CN, etc.) in the presence of a metal halide of the formula MXn (M is tinhe or titanium; X is Cl or Br; n is 2 when M is tin, and 3 when M is titanium), and the reaction product is then treated with water or an acidic aqueous solution to give the titled compound of formula III without using a base.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid by oxidizing corresponding cycloalkanone compounds with molecular oxygen in a liquid phase, by which the aliphatic dicarboxylic acid is produced in a high yield in safer handling. SOLUTION: The cycloalkanone compounds are oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of a cerium compound and a cobalt compound as catalysts in a liquid phase. Preferably the cycloalkanone compounds are cyclohexanone and cyclododecanone and in the catalytic system, at least one compound of each catalytic component selected from the cerium compound and the cobalt compound is a nitrate.
