Also described are preferred processes and clearcoated articles involving preferred clearcoat compositions.
Abstract:
The water leaching of ammonium polyphosphate from compositions comprising organic polymer and particles of ammonium polyphosphate is reduced if the ammonium polyphosphate is surface-modified with at least one nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of: (a) fatty alcohol containing from about 12 to about 32 carbon atoms, (b) alkylene oxide adduct of such fatty alcohol, (c) fatty acid amide containing from about 12 to about 32 carbon atoms in the acyl group thereof, (d) compolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, and (e) a mixture thereof, wherein the surfactant has an HLB less than about 10.
Abstract:
Polymerizable compositions comprising a liquid polymerizable continuous phase and a non-liquid, non-polymerizable dispersed discontinuous phase are stabilized agents density drift of the discontinuous phase by forming in-situ, throughout and within said polymerizable composition a crystalline matrix of sufficient density to effectively inhibit density drift.

Films formed from blends of high impact LLDPE and sorbitol derivatives exhibit excellent optical properties, particularly excellent haze properties.
Abstract:
A composition is comprised of an aminopolyamide-epichlorohydrin acid salt resin having a total organically bound clorine of up to 0.7 % by weight of the resin is useful as a wet strength agent for paper. The composition further comprised of a polyol, a monoalkyl ether of a polyol, and/or a polyalkylene glycol is useful as an additive in coating formulations. The amount of total organically bound chlorine present is controlled by the manufacturing process parameters.
Abstract:
What is described herein is a process for making ethanol solutions of alkyl half-esters of copolymers of maleic anhydride and a C1-C4 alkyl vinyl ether which are benzene and acetone-free. The invention is characterized by (a) precharging a reactor with excess C1-C4 alkyl vinyl ether as both monomer reactant and solvent, and a free radical polymerization intiator, at a reaction temperature; (b) feeding the alkyl half-ester of maleic anhydride formed by reaction of substantially one mole of maleic anhydride and substantially one mole of alkanol into the precharged reactor to form the desired alkyl half-ester of the alternating copolymer of maleic anhydride and the C1-C4 alkyl vinyl ether in excess alkyl vinyl ether as solvent; (c) cooling the reactor to room temperature; and (d) introducing ethanol solvent into the reactor and removing excess alkyl vinyl ether to form the desired half-ester copolymer in ethanol solution.
Abstract:
An improved ostomy seal is provided by a crosslinked composition comprising a water-soluble acrylamide polymer, a plasticizing quantity of a water-miscible polyol (containing water) that provides an elastomeric gel, and a crosslinking polyaldehyde.
