Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display mounted in a housing. A color sensing ambient light sensor may measure the color of ambient light. The color sensing ambient light sensor may produce sensor output signals in a device-dependent color space. Control circuitry in the electronic device may convert the sensor output signals from the device-dependent color space to a device-independent color space using a color converting matrix. The color converting matrix may be determined using stored training data. The training data may include color data for different training light sources. The training data may be weighted to selectively control the influence of the training data on the color converting matrix. The training data may be weighted based on a distance between the training color data and a target color in the detected ambient light.

Abstract: A metrology system is used for measuring a spectral feature of a pulsed light beam. The metrology system includes: a beam homogenizer in the path of the pulsed light beam, the beam homogenizer having an array of wavefront modification cells, with each cell having a surface area that matches a size of at least one of the spatial modes of the light beam; an optical frequency separation apparatus in the path of the pulsed light beam exiting the beam homogenizer, wherein the optical frequency separation apparatus is configured to interact with the pulsed light beam and to output a plurality of spatial components that correspond to the spectral components of the pulsed light beam; and at least one sensor that receives and senses the output spatial components.

Abstract: The present system provides a sensor clip system that can be clipped to luminaires of a plurality of shapes and sizes and method of using the sensor clip. Some of the sensors are upward looking (into the luminaire) while others are downward looking (away from the luminaire); and thus face in substantially opposite directions. The sensor clip is adjustable in one, two or three dimensions to be able to easily fit with different sized and shaped luminaires, such that the upward looking sensors may face the incoming light and downward looking sensors face away from the light. The sensor clip system may also provide attenuation of the luminous intensity of the emitted light coming out of the luminaires and extends the longevity and usability of the embedded sensor.

Abstract: An illumination device described herein includes at least a phosphor converted LED, which is configured for emitting illumination for the illumination device, a first photodetector and a second photodetector. A spectrum of the illumination emitted from the phosphor converted LED comprises a first portion having a first peak emission wavelength and a second portion having a second peak emission wavelength, which differs from the first peak emission wavelength. The first photodetector has a detection range, which is configured for detecting only the first portion of the spectrum emitted by the phosphor converted LED. The second photodetector has a detection range, which is configured for detecting only the second portion of the spectrum emitted by the phosphor converted LED. Methods are provided herein for calibrating and controlling each portion of the phosphor converted LED spectrum, as if the phosphor converted LED were two separate LEDs.

Abstract: Illumination of an environment can be selected based on target colors that the illumination would provide for specific samples. One process for synthesizing the illumination includes repeatedly selecting settings for separate light sources in a luminaire system and determining a merit function of the target colors of the samples and apparent colors of the samples under illumination that the luminaire system would produce with the settings selected. The value of the merit function thus determined can be used to identify a synthesized illumination, for example, the synthesized illumination that provides a smallest value. A luminaire system can implement such a process in a luminaire or in a control system for luminaires.
